Acupuncture Relieves Leg Pain, Naturally

Woman in blue track suit stretches out after getting acupuncture for sciatica and leg pain.

Get Fast Relief from Leg Pain with Acupuncture!

Are you looking for a holistic approach for relief from sciatica and leg pain?  Acupuncture works!

Sciatica specifically describes pain associated with the sciatic nerve root. It usually affects the lower back, gluteal region and leg, sometimes radiating to the lower leg and foot. Acupuncture relieves leg pain, naturally, without any side effects!

Here’s what you may be experiencing:

  • Pain running down the back, side and front of the leg
  • The pain is worse when you sit
  • There are burning or tingling sensations
  • There is constant hip and gluteal pain
  • There is weakness, numbness or pins and needles

The discomfort is experienced is due to impingement or inflammation of the nerve. The sciatic nerve passes down the back of the leg, but it is also common for people to have nerve pain radiating from the back, down the side or front of the leg. This pain is sometimes referred to as sciatica, although technically it follows a different nerve pathway.

Acupuncture is a good treatment option for relieving leg pain and sciatica.

There are several acupuncture channels passing from the area of the lower back and hip down the legs. These often follow the pathways of pain described by patients and can be used to help to relieve leg pain.

Acupuncture has been found to have an anti inflammatory effect in the body. It works on local muscle and nerve tissue to promote circulation of blood and immune system modulation. It has been found to have an effect to reduce the sensitivity of pain preceptors in the brain. Acupuncture is also understood to promote levels of serotonin and noradrenaline which help with pain control and speed up the repair of nerves.

Acupuncture relieves leg pain but also works to relieve stress and pain throughout the whole body!

Acupuncture is very helpful and it’s quick. Often relief is felt at the first treatment, and usually only a few are necessary, unless longstanding injuries are the cause, in which case more treatments will be needed.

In addition, acupuncture is good at reducing the tension in the neck tendons and muscles. It has a relaxing effect on many people and some even fall asleep during the treatment. Stress relief is more important than ever.

With acupuncture, we look at your whole health history, sports traumas, falls, bumps and bruises, as well as all other stories, and tailor a treatment specifically to your needs. The body likes to remember its history to help protect you. Acupuncture also helps to reduce the residual effects that linger, sometimes for years.

Most people experience great results. Many patients feel immediate improvements.

Acupuncture treatments are painless and gentle. Our offices are clean, healthy, and peaceful places to be.

The best part? The treatment is safe, natural, effective and drug-free.

Dehydrated? Acupuncture Brings Relief

Woman runs in the desert

Dehydrated? Acupuncture Brings Relief

Acupuncture can help restore balance, naturally!

It’s easy to get dehydrated. Water is so important to our body. Water fills empty spaces and transports blood cells. It dissolves all the body solids and increases oxygen to the cells. It is the glue that keeps the solid parts of cells together, is the main source of energy production and also regulates energy by osmotic balancing. Everything in your body needs water to live. If you’re dehydrated, acupuncture brings relief.

Unfortunately, thirst isn’t always a reliable source of the body’s need for water, especially for children and older adults. Water is lost from the body from sweating, urinating, breathing, and bowel movements.

How do you know if you’re dehydrated? Consider your personal color instead  — a better gauge is the color of your urine. Clear or light-colored urine means you’re well hydrated, whereas a dark yellow or amber color usually signals dehydration.

Time to drink more water! Here’s what can happen if you don’t…

Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness — children are likely to be less active than usual
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears when crying
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

Severe dehydration, a medical emergency, can cause:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Extreme fussiness or sleepiness in infants and children; irritability and confusion in adults
  • Very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes
  • Little or no urination — any urine that is produced will be darker than normal
  • Sunken eyes
  • Shriveled and dry skin that lacks elasticity and doesn’t “bounce back” when pinched into a fold
  • In infants, sunken fontanels — the soft spots on the top of a baby’s head
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • No tears when crying
  • Fever
  • In the most serious cases, delirium or unconsciousness

So obviously, we need to pay attention to our hydration levels!

When an acupuncture needle is inserted, it results in increased heat, which results in increased blood flow, and it results in an increase in water to the damaged cells that cause pain.

Acupuncture and water work as a team to help heal your body. By increasing the content of water to the damaged cells cellular healing occurs.

The following organs as important team players in the role of creating and moving blood: Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lung, and Liver. Blood needs water to move. If blood does not function properly, then qi (or Life Force) cannot move well either.

Acupuncture also works to relieve stress and pain, naturally!

It is an ancient, time-tested form of therapy that has exceptionally few side effects. Modern research shows that not only is acupuncture effective in relieving pain, it can also treat other systems in the body like the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system.

We look at your whole health history and tailor a treatment specifically to your needs. The root cause of the pain will be treated.

Stay healthy and happy with acupuncture!

Top Reasons To Get Summer Acupuncture

Family at the beach after acupuncture

Have more fun this summer with acupuncture!

Summer is here, and here are some great ways that acupuncture can boost your and your family’s health this season!

Would you like to relieve seasonal allergies, boost your immunity and energy, achieve your optimum weight, all while getting fast relief from pain and stress? Acupuncture can do all of this!

Did you know that about 26 million Americans endure chronic seasonal allergies, while the number of people with milder symptoms may be as high as 40 million? (National Center for Health Statistics.)

Acupuncture is one of the major holistic therapies used for thousands of years to address the underlying energetic relationships in the body that makes those allergic reactions happen. Acupuncture treatments can give immediate relief from the symptoms, and further, it can address the variety of underlying causes.

Best of all, acupuncture is a great way to bring allergy relief and avoid the negative side effects that allergy medications can have.

Going on vacation? In addition to allergy relief, acupuncture can boost your immunity. Acupuncture heals imbalances in your immune system and also restores energy channels that have become disrupted. When these channels are open, the immune function functions at an optimal level and your body stays healthy.

Stay strong and healthy with acupuncture!

Acupuncture enhances the body’s defense mechanisms against viruses and bacteria. It also regulates the activity of white blood cells, which also fight against infection and allergic reactions.

That’s not all that acupuncture can help with — acupuncture can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

Whether you want to just drop a few pounds or many, acupuncture works with you to make it easier!

If you’re having difficulty losing weight on your own, the ancient practice of acupuncture helps to aid in weight loss.

Acupuncture can power up any other weight control plan by helping to keep your appetite in check, easing cravings, improving digestion, and enhancing the way nutrients are used. Treatments release endorphins which have a calming and relaxing effect. It makes it easier to deal with stress, frustration and anxiety that can trigger overeating fattening foods.

Acupuncture can help re-balance the organ systems that are running too fast, or in this case too slow; specifically your metabolism and will power. If lack of energy is an issue, acupuncture treatments will give you a boost!

Acupuncture also works to relieve stress and pain, naturally!

It’s Spring! It’s also time for seasonal allergies. Acupuncture can help.

If you are suffering from allergies, you are definitely not alone.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, about 26 million Americans endure chronic seasonal allergies, while the amount of people with milder symptoms may be as high as 40 million.

An allergy is an immune system disorder that occurs when your body has an inflammatory, hypertensive reaction to what is a normally benign substance, like pollen. Common conditions such as hay fever, eczema, hives and asthma are actually allergic reactions.

Most symptoms appear within 5 or 10 minutes of exposure to the allergens and usually include sneezing, dry and unproductive coughing, wheezing, itchy sensations on the roof of the mouth or at the back of the throat, swollen sinuses leading to a stuffy nose and headaches, a runny nose, itching, watery and reddened eyes, reduced sense of smell and taste, and disturbed sleep. That can certainly make it hard to concentrate and perform daily tasks, especially at work or school.

Get Fast Relief from Arthritis Pain with Acupuncture

Couple Riding Bicycles Free Of Arthritis Pain

Be free from arthritis pain with acupuncture!

Acupuncture takes away arthritis pain, and can improve mobility naturally!

Chances are, someone you care about suffers with arthritis pain. Arthritis is one of the most pervasive diseases in the United States and is the leading cause of disability. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every three Americans (an estimated seventy million people) is affected.

Arthritis is a disease that affects the joints of the body. While medicine has identified over 100 different forms of arthritis, there are some symptoms that are common in every variety. These include pain, stiffness and inflammation, while extreme cases can even result in physical disfiguration. Other non-localized symptoms can include fatigue, insomnia, weight loss and fever. In most cases arthritis is limited to one part of the body, typically the hands, feet, knees, hips or any of the major joints. Arthritis is also seen in auto-immune diseases like Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis and Scleroderma and as a manifestation of problems in body chemistry as in Gout.

While most forms of arthritis are considered non-preventable, you can lessen your risk by remaining physically active, sticking to a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight. The earlier in the arthritis process the disease is detected and treatment is started, the better the outlook.

For most people, arthritis pain and inflammation cannot be avoided as the body ages. In fact, most people over the age of fifty show some signs of arthritis as joints degenerate over time. Fortunately, arthritis can often be managed with acupuncture.

Acupuncture decreases pain by increasing the release of endorphins (chemicals that block pain). Many acu-points are near nerves. When stimulated, these nerves cause a dull ache or feeling of fullness in the muscle. The stimulated muscle sends a message to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), causing the release of endorphins (morphine-like chemicals produced in our own bodies during times of pain or stress). These endorphins, along with other neurotransmitters (body chemicals that modify nerve impulses), block the message of pain from being delivered up to the brain.

All joint pain occurs within the external aspect of the body, along the acupuncture channels. However, the condition is always accompanied by a deeper, systemic imbalance within the body. For treatment to be effective, both the manifestation (the joint pain) and the root cause need to be treated. Acupuncture restores harmony to the body, and thereby corrects the imbalance. If the systemic imbalance is not too severe and/or the patient is strong, acupuncture may offer a cure. However, if the arthritic process is very deep-rooted, acupuncture may only be able to offer pain relief and help prevent further progression of the disease. Regardless, with acupuncture treatments, improvements are a sure thing.

Less pain, greater mobility and range of motion, as well as improved strength come quickly with a series of treatments. Get back to enjoying life again!

Acupuncture Soothes Anxiety

Relax with acupuncture!

Get relief from stress and pain with acupuncture!

Don’t suffer from anxiety — bring your body and emotions back into balance with acupuncture!

Tension and stress affect different people in different ways. For some, it manifests as emotional tension. Energy can stagnate in the chest area, and heart palpitations and nervousness can occur, as well as feelings of anxiety or feeling distant emotionally.

Stress is a normal human reaction that happens to everyone, in fact, the human body is designed to experience stress and react to it. When you experience changes or challenges, your body produces physical and mental responses.

Stress responses help your body adjust to new situations. Stress can be positive, keeping us alert, motivated and ready to avoid danger. For example, if you have an important exam coming up, a stress response might help your body work harder and stay awake longer. But stress becomes a problem when stressors continue without relief or periods of relaxation.

In other people, the build up and stagnation of energy can cause muscle tension, pain, spasm and headaches. If the tension isn’t relieved, and is allowed to become chronic, it can lead to habitual anger, migraines and high blood pressure, among other symptoms.

Stress, anxiety and depression can cause a disruption in the flow of vital energy, or Qi, through the body. These energetic imbalances can throw off the immune system or cause symptoms of pain, sleep disturbances, abnormal digestion, headaches, and menstrual irregularities, and, over time, more serious illnesses can develop.

Give yourself the gift of health — with acupuncture!

Acupuncture treatments can directly affect the way your body manages stress and your mental and physical health. Acupuncture can be very helpful for those who suffer from depression as treatments can bring the body to a more balanced state.

Acupuncture is used to unblock energy, and move it through channels in the body and either balance it or repel it from the body via the meridian system. This causes energy to flow freer in the channels of the body, allowing the person to feel more relaxed, balanced, and able to focus.

Acupuncture treatments often have the quality of sleep and deep relaxation.

In fact, many patients report falling asleep during the session, and enjoy a good night’s sleep following treatment.

Acupuncture is a fantastic way to release built up stress, and head off tension before it starts to cause trouble.

With acupuncture, we look at your whole health history and tailor a treatment specifically to your needs. Many patients feel immediate improvements.

The best part? The treatment is safe, natural, effective and drug-free.

In Pain from Winter Shoveling? Acupuncture Brings Relief!

man with shovel 1
Are you in pain after shoveling out from the latest storm of the century?
Acupuncture to the rescue!

There’s been an awful lot of shoveling and maneuvering of snowy and icy sidewalks lately, and the body sure can suffer. Back pain is one of the top reasons people seek medical treatment. What causes it? Some of the top causes are sprains which can occur when one or more of the ligaments in the back is overstretched and strains, which is a rip or tear in the muscle caused by sudden force.

This can happen from an injury, poor posture, or improper lifting, such as improperly hefting too big of a pile of Mother Nature’s bounty.

Back problems are also, by far, the primary reason for appointments with acupuncturists.

Back pain limits range of motion and complicates daily activities. Some back pain is accompanied by tingling and burning and acupuncture treatments work wonderfully for those conditions as well. Acupuncture can effectively help acute and chronic back pain and many other issues, like neck pain, naturally.

The neck is more subject to injury than any other portion of the spine. This is because of its position and range of motion, and because it plays such a vital role in the supporting the head. There are so many tendons and connecting tissue structures that enable the movement of the neck and arms. In addition, and we also sometimes store our stress there.

Neck pain can be mild enough so that it is a mere annoyance, or severe enough that it interferes with our quality of life.

It can help relieve the pain and tightness in the neck by increasing the circulation of blood and energy, and it can also help to relieve stress. Acupuncture has a relaxing effect on many people and some even fall asleep during the treatment.

Some tips for healthy and happy shoveling:

  • Push the snow, don’t lift it.
  • In terms of your shovel, use a smaller one; the less snow you move at once, the safer you’ll be.
  • Don’t start shoveling while snow is still falling (it’s colder, so you’ll put additional strain on your heart)
  • Breathe during the exercise; keep checking yourself to make sure you’re not accidentally holding your breath.

Acupuncture Eases Seasonal Depression, Naturally

Happy Autumn Couple 1
If you are suffering from depression this season, acupuncture can offer effective, holistic care.

Feelings of depression during the changes of season happen to many of us. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects over ten million people in the United States each year. While the true cause of SAD is not known, it is commonly thought that decreased melatonin levels caused from limited exposure to sunlight in the winter are involved, as well as decreased serotonin levels — both may trigger depression.

In addition, our biological clock (circadian rhythm) which lets our body know when to sleep and when to be awake is also disrupted with seasonal changes. Varying sleep patterns often leads to feelings of depression, too.

happy winter woman in hat

Acupuncture gets you back into balance!

How do you know if you are depressed? Symptoms of depression include loss of interest or focus, fatigue, changes in eating habits and excessive sleeping, among many others.

Depression can cause people to lose pleasure from daily life, complicate other medical conditions, and if serious enough lead to suicide. As with many illnesses, early treatment is more effective and helps prevent the likelihood of serious recurrences.

One of the best ways to treat depression is through regular acupuncture treatments. It can bring the body to a more balanced state, help the body release “feel-good” endorphins and even prevent other medical complications.

Acupuncture is a wonderful addition to Western medical treatments. And for those who wish to bypass prescription drugs, treating depression with acupuncture not only has a positive and holistic effect, it avoids the potential side effects of traditional medication.

If you would like to learn about how acupuncture can help relieve depression and help you attune to the seasons visit us at www.ctacupuncture.com or call 203-259-1660 to make an appointment.
