Treating Arthritis with Acupuncture

May is National Arthritis Month and there's no better time to take action. If you suffer with arthritis, acupuncture can help. Arthritis is one of the most pervasive diseases in the United States and is the leading cause of disability. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every three Americans (an estimated seventy million people) is affected. For most people, arthritis pain and inflammation cannot be avoided as the body ages. In fact, most people over the age of fifty show some signs of arthritis as joints degenerate over time. Fortunately, arthritis can often be managed with acupuncture. Eastern View of Arthritis In Oriental medicine, arthritis is called "Bi Syndrome." Bi Syndrome manifests as pain, soreness, or numbness of muscles, tendons and joints. Arthritis is treated according to which type of Bi Syndrome it falls into: 1. Moving (Wind) Bi Syndrome: Pain in the joints is widespread and moves from one area of the body to another. This is often accompanied by fever and chills. 2. Stationary (Damp) Bi Syndrome: The pain is localized and does not move. The body and limbs feel heavy and there is numbness and swelling. 3. Painful (Cold) Bi Syndrome: Severe pain in one part, or over one half of the body which becomes worse with cold and diminishes with warmth. 4. Heat Bi Syndrome: The flesh is hot, the area of pain is red and swollen, and the pain increases upon contact.

Ingri,

"You know that I cannot thank you enough!  I  recently received treatment for an old back injury. I wasn't sure it would respond, but I haven't had a problem with it since the treatment! It is nice that you have offices all over so that your patients can always get the treatment they need. Thanks, Ingri! " - Janice O.

Lyme Disease is a disease that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected tick. Left untreated, it leads to permanent problems with the heart, joints and nervous system. Typical symptoms include joint ache, skin rash (particularly in the area surrounding the bite), headaches, fever, profuse sweating and fatigue, though all of the symptoms are not present in every case. Early detection and treatment is vital in preventing Lyme Disease from advancing to the later stages.

Deer ticks are extremely small (about the size of a poppy seed) and are found in tall grass, wooded areas and anywhere else where deer or other small rodents are present. Fortunately, deer ticks don’t bite humans immediately upon contact; they typically spend several hours crawling around before attaching themselves to the skin. Even then, it takes longer than 12 hours after that for the disease to be transmitted, so finding a deer tick on your body isn’t necessarily an indication that you have been infected. However, if you have been bitten, the symptoms typically appear within 7 to 14 days. A simple blood test is all that is required to determine if Lyme Disease is present.

Migraines are treated preventatively, and a few treatments will clear up most migraine patterns, permanently! This is great news and should be more well-known, if you ask me.

We have worked with migraine patients, (classic, cluster, and variations on the theme) for the last 25 years, and our surveys have shown close to 100% improvement on virtually all the patients we have treated. The points chosen are usually on the upper back, neck, ear, abdomen, and the temple area of the head. Leg points are also relevant. Each person is evaluated individually - history and other problems (symptoms) are taken into consideration, so the treatment points will vary. The treatment is painless and gentle.

 Bladder Disease

"I’m just thrilled and amazed at the results of your treatments.  I came to you the day before bladder biopsies were scheduled with a long list of related symptoms.  My anxiety level was a 10 at the very least.  After checking my Chinese vital signs you proceeded to address my bladder related issues, in addition to giving dietary suggestions,  coupled with a dose of reassurance, empathy and good humor.  I walked away greatly improved, with an anxiety level of about 5.  After 2 more visits I was well on the mend, anxious only about the results and prognosis.  By the fourth treatment I was feeling immensely improved and close to symptom free.  My entire body and emotional outlook have improved.  I’m so grateful!

I would suggest to anyone referred to a urologist that they schedule as many appointments with you as possible prior to cystoscopy.  I believe that the positive effect of acupuncture will cure or vastly improve their problem to the extent that they may be able to avoid the biopsy process. Regardless of the urologist’s findings I would accelerate healing with acupuncture."

Janice T. from Ridgefield, CT, May '10
