Is high blood pressure a concern for you or a loved one? Acupuncture can help heart health!

High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the body becomes elevated. More than 90% of hypertension cases are classified as “Primary Hypertension,” which means that no particular medical cause can be pinpointed. The remaining cases (“Secondary Hypertension”) stem either from conditions of the kidneys or the endocrine or circulatory systems. Acupuncture can treat both.

Symptoms of high blood pressure include headaches, dizziness, visual disorientation and drowsiness. According to a new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association, middle-aged Americans face a staggering 90 percent chance of developing hypertension.

If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause of strokes, heart attack, kidney failure and arterial aneurysm — definitely something better to pay attention to rather than ignore.

Acupuncture is very helpful in the treatment of high blood pressure. It has a regulatory effect on blood pressure, whether high or low, by controlling the flow of qi (life energy, life force) and blood throughout the body.

Acupuncture can work alongside other treatment programs. In Western medicine studies suggest that acupuncture helps by regulating hormone levels and body’s sensors (baroreceptors) to normalize low blood pressure.  In many cases it can reduce or even remove the need for traditional blood pressure medications — which can come with many side effects.

Even if you don’t have hypertension, everyone can benefit by maintaining a healthy weight, reducing sugar and sodium intake, finding healthy ways of dealing with stress, quitting smoking, and exercising on a regular basis.

Reset Your Inner Clock! Acupuncture Brings Relief from Jet Lag

Travel Easy with Acupuncture!

Jet lag? Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

Don’t let jet lag ruin the end of a great vacation — Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

We’ve all been there. After coming home from traveling, the insomnia, fatigue, disturbed digestion and a loss of appetite can really make you wish for another vacation!

Acupuncture is based on the theory that Qi, the body’s motivating energy, flows in a 24 hour cycle. The body’s functions are tied into this, much the same as the biological clock recognized by Western medicine.

When you travel across time zones, your body clock falls out of sync. Certain organs are more easily affected by changes in time zones, with those associated with sleep, digestion and bowel function the most likely to be affected. In trying to readjust, people often carry out activities, such a eating, exercising or sleeping at a different time than the one dictated by their body clock. This explains why digestive issues and insomnia are the most common symptoms of jet lag. In addition, sitting in one spot for most of the flight can make you feel stiff and sore.

Acupuncture Brings Restful Sleep - Fairfield, CT

Relief from Insomnia with Acupuncture!

Resetting the body clock using acupuncture can help ease jet lag symptoms. Getting a treatment can definitely help restore your equilibrium, and boost your immunity. Acupuncture also stimulates blood flow, making it especially helpful in treating the stiffness and soreness associated with jet lag. The body always feels nice and relaxed afterwards allowing you to have a really good night’s sleep.

You’ll want to get acupuncture within 24 hours or so of landing in order for it to be most effective, but there are steps you can take on your journey to minimize the effect of jet lag:

  • Carry out the appropriate activity for the time zone you are going to.  For example, when you board the plane, if it is the middle of the night in your destination, try and go straight to sleep.
  • Try some relaxation techniques or breathing exercises to reduce tension in your body. Being relaxed will minimize the disruption to your body clock.
  • Staying hydrated is important! Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.

Acupuncture is a Parent’s Number One Back-to-School Supply

Back to School with Acupuncture!

Back to School with Acupuncture!

Back to school! And back to the stress of helping kids with homework and getting them to school on time. Acupuncture can relieve the stress and help boost your immune system.

Summer’s almost over, and school is about to start — wouldn’t it be nice to know you have all the school supplies you and your family needs? (Including more energy, more focus, less stress and better sleep?)

Sounds like a lot to pack in a lunch box? Of course it does. But it’s not too much to expect from regular acupuncture treatments.

Other than stress relief, one of the biggest benefits of acupuncture is the immunity boost it gives you. The likelihood of either you or your child getting sick when kids head back to school increases significantly. Acupuncture boosts your immune system, which can greatly reduce the risk of coming down with the “Illness of the Week”.

In addition to the immunity boost, many people report having more energy in the hours, days and even weeks after acupuncture treatment. In addition to the surge of physical energy, many people notice improved mental clarity, which is important when exam week comes around, or that big presentation.

Don’t stress out! When those deadlines and tests get a bit overwhelming, acupuncture is great at relieving headaches, (even migraines) as well as reducing anxiety, depression and stress.

Acupuncture is great for student athletes, too!

Acupuncture is great for student athletes, too!

Insomnia is one of the most common complaints by students, teachers, and parents alike, and acupuncture can be highly effective at resolving that as well.

Acupuncture is also great for student athletes! Besides keeping the body healthy, well-documented studies have proven over and over the effects of acupuncture in reduction of pain. This is due in part to the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller, along with an increase in blood circulation and lessening of muscle tension.

Relief of pain, stress and anxiety, immunity bolstering, and more energy? Acupuncture gets an A+!

Summer Is No Time For Back Pain! Acupuncture Relieves and Heals

Healthy Backs with Acupuncture!

Healthy Backs with Acupuncture!

Whether it’s from bad physical habits or a sudden strain, acupuncture can bring relief to lower back pain!

There’s nothing like back pain to stop you in your tracks and ruin a fun summer vacation. It’s the main reason patients visit our office. Lower back pain affects up to 80% of the population at one or more times in their life.

The top causes of back pain are sprains from overstretching back ligaments, and strains, (a muscle rip or tear) caused by sudden force. Sprains and strains can happen from poor posture, improper lifting or lack of proper muscle warm up prior to exercise.  In many cases back problems develop over time — from sitting incorrectly at a desk or steering wheel, or repetitive tasks, such as heavy lifting.

Back pain limits range of motion and complicates daily activities. And summer is no time to suffer from back pain!

Freedom from Back Pain with Acupuncture!

Back problems are the number one reason why people get acupuncture treatments. There’s good reason. Acupuncture can effectively help acute and chronic back pain and many other pain related issues naturally — without medication.

Acupuncture is an ancient, time-tested form of therapy that has exceptionally few side effects. Modern research shows that not only is acupuncture effective in relieving back pain, it can also treat other systems in the body like the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system.

At CT Acupuncture Center we look at your whole health history and tailor a treatment specifically to your needs.  The root cause of the pain will be treated. Your energy pathways will be opened up, and your body will begin to be able to heal itself, muscles will relax, reducing the pain.

Many patients feel immediate improvements. The best part? The treatment is safe, natural, effective and drug-free.

Return to summer fun, and let acupuncture get you back on track!
