Anxiety is a mental state accompanied by number of unpleasant mental sensations, such as apprehension, fear, and worry. It is most often associated with a future (or sometimes current) event or series of events, and in many instances these are totally irrational assumptions of what is happening or will happen. Physical symptoms of anxiety range from a general uneasiness to severe reactions, such as chest pains, shortness of breath and diminished mental capabilities.
Although anxiety occurs when certain neurons react to external stimuli, there are some physical symptoms that often occur when experiencing anxiety. These include sweating, nausea, heart palpitations and panic attacks, though not all panic attacks are caused by anxiety (and vice versa). Treatment for anxiety varies from person to person, as there is no “one size fits all” type of treatment.
Acupuncture often gives an immediate improvement on the symptoms present, as well as a deeper improvement on the underlying causes. The energetic systems involved will vary for each individual, and may include liver, kidney, heart, lung, or spleen energetics. These systems have a yang counterpart, so to speak, and point sites will be found along the various meridian pathways anywhere on the body! The reasoning involved is unique to acupuncture theory and practice, and good results are the common result. Immediate relief, and deeper clearing of underlying causes can be anticipated.
Acupuncture works well with diet corrections, supplementation, as well as necessary medications. Meditation and exercise are often important additions to a healthy approach. What are your meditation techniques like? Have you tried yoga or qiqong? Or tai qi? A walk is a good thing. Be sure not to be dehydrated. Breathing exercises are also helpful. Ask about these.
