Emotional Problems Eased with Acupuncture

Emotional Problems Eased with Acupuncture

Emotional Problems Eased with Acupuncture

Life can sure be a challenge. And sometimes those challenges can get overwhelming and cause emotional problems.

Emotional Problems are a general term that covers a wide range of mental issues, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and personality disorders. There are also a wide range of issues that are thought to be responsible for emotional problems, including genetics, environmental factors and chemical and hormonal imbalances. Typical symptoms include fatigue, loss of focus and interest, changes in eating habits and problems sleeping.

Since there are a number of conditions that fall under the heading of emotional disorder, treatment is always on a case-by-case basis. Likewise, the symptoms of a person suffering from an emotional disorder are different in every case, depending on a combination of a person’s biological and personality makeup. One can think that emotions are how thoughts and chemicals actually feel. A sensory experience part to the thoughts and chemicals we are made of. I agree with this line of thought. Feels right! Choosing your thoughts carefully, and watching your diet, will improve things dramatically. This is a process of discovery, as you will go through levels of progress with regards to both areas as you proceed. Impeccable thought is a work in progress, as is diet choices. Start where you are and make smart improvements as best you understand what is “smart” at this point in your progress. What is good for me is different than what may be good for you today. We each need to pick our own way as best we can.

Acupuncture does help to identify causes and relevant events with effects residing in the body memory. It is good to pinpoint some of the stressed and traumatized areas, release and reduce the levels of stress, so a new level of calm and comfort is gained. Point sites may be on the upper back, neck, lower back, hands or feet. The pathways involved have their own exit points which may be chosen to be treated. A common exit area chosen is at the shoulder – neck area. The “windows of the sky” points do release a lot of stored tension.

Acupuncture is good for reducing anger, fear, sadness, worry, anxiety, depression, and stress of all kinds.

Acupuncture Very Helpful in the Treatment and Causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Image

Acupuncture Helps with CFS

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also referred to as CFS) is the medical name for a series of disorders that is characterized by a persistent feeling of fatigue that is not caused by lack of sleep or by excessive physical activity. Because CFS is a multi-faceted disease, it often takes several visits to medical professionals to finally diagnose. There is a virus that has been associated with chronic fatigue, the Epstein Barr virus. After a prolonged illness, fatigue can be a lingering symptom. When the body fluids have a lower ph than 6.8, as measured in the saliva or urine (correctly); fatigue, tiredness, insomnia, pain, and tension may be the resulting signs.

Acupuncture is very helpful in the treatment of the symptom as well as in the underlying causes of the fatigue. A thorough history, and an individual approach in the choice of point sites will usually give immediate positive results. Spleen and Kidney energetic systems are considered, as well as abdomen and upper back point sites. Acupuncture analysis includes a peek at the tongue, as well as checking the pulses. Improving the diet is always a good idea.

Acupuncture Helps the Body Resist the Negative Effects of Chemotherapy

Acupuncture an Ally For Those Undergoing Chemo

Acupuncture an Ally For Those Undergoing Chemo

Acupuncture can be an excellent ally for those undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Chemotherapy, also called chemo, is a drug treatment medical professionals use to destroy cancer cells. The drugs work by affecting the growth of cells that divide rapidly, such as cancer cells.

However, the drugs also affect other cells which divide frequently, such as the ones that line your mouth, the ones found in hair follicles and the cells of the lining in your intestine. For this reason, persons undergoing treatment often experience a range of symptoms, including hair loss, a bad taste in their mouths, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Damage to blood cells can cause anemia and as a result, fatigue. Damage to cells that produce hormones can cause chills, hot flashes and night sweats. The treatment often feels worse than the disease!

Whenever cancer occurs, there has been a weakening of the body and an inability of the body to heal itself completely. Cancer, in fact, is an attempt of the body to heal itself. This is good news, because it means that strengthening the body will help to heal it from cancer.

Before chemotherapy treatments, acupuncture will help make the body stronger and better able to resist the negative effects of chemotherapy, thus diminishing the symptoms. After chemotherapy treatments, acupuncture helps in a number of ways to restore the body’s balance. Even under chronic conditions, acupuncture at specific points will set into action the body’s own healing abilities, reinvigorating the affected cells and helping them to recover, thus diminishing the symptoms. Acupuncture always works with the body’s natural energy. Clearing the energy meridians will allow the body to release endorphins, which reduce fatigue and nausea and increase energy and feelings of well-being.

Studies at the National Institutes of Health resulted in a 1997 Consensus Statement on Acupuncture stating that “promising results have emerged” after studies of the effectiveness of acupuncture showed an easing of nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy.

“I think you’re absolutely amazing. Since my treatment yesterday I’ve had almost no hot flashes…maybe one or two very minimal ones but nothing like I was experiencing before. The nausea also seems to be better. So thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Acupuncture Treatments for Fertility Issues — Relaxing, Painless and Gentle!

Image

Acupuncture Can Aid with Fertility Issues

Infertility is a term that refers to the inability of a person to reproduce. Although it affects men and women alike, the causes (and treatments) differ greatly. Female infertility is a more common issue, as it also covers the condition of a woman who is unable to achieve a full-term pregnancy. Like many other medical definitions, infertility is a term that covers a wide range of conditions and causes.

Female infertility can be caused by either primary factors (hormone imbalances, liver or kidney issues, genetic abnormalities) or secondary factors (smoking, STDs, high or low body weight, advanced age). Male infertility (often referred to as “low sperm count”) can result from drug/alcohol/tobacco/steroid intake, strenuous riding (bike, horseback), genetic factors, or a number of diseases, including mumps and malaria, among others.

Acupuncture treats the underlying causes, as well as the local considerations of follicle formation, uterine lining quality, and retention of the egg through the initial weeks. The hormonal system is supported as well. We begin with a complete history, tongue and pulse analysis, and chose low abdomen points as well as others- some might be on the legs, some on the back. Treatments are relaxing, painless, and gentle. It is one of my favorite things to treat, I am excited and elated when we get the good results! Yippee, or something in that order. We have seen many babies arrive on the acupuncture-stork’s wings.

“I went in to see Ingri to seek help with fertility issues. I went through ten treatments, and my baby girl, Eva Hawley Sayler was born 11/2/11. I do believe I wouldn’t have my Little Miracle without the help of acupuncture.”

Acupuncture Can Help Sciatica!

Image

Sciatica Relief Through Acupuncture

Sciatica (also known as sciatic neuritis) is the result of the compression of the sciatic nerve in the lower back. It produces pain and/or numbness in the lower back, the glutes, and even down the entire length of the leg.

Treatment options vary depending on the specifics of the case. Muscle spasms, tight tendons and connective tissue, pregnancy, bulging or herniated discs, misaligned spine, or spinal degeneration, is often the cause for sciatica. In most cases, relieving the pressure on the sciatic nerve can be achieved without undergoing surgery.

Acupuncture is awesome at releasing the extra tension that causes the tendons, and muscle spasms, to irritate the sciatica nerve bundle. When symptoms are closer to the origin area in the lower back, the outer nerves are irritated in the bundle. As the symptoms reach (radiate) farther down the leg to the foot, and pick up numbness, the deeper nerves in the bundle are also getting irritated. You want to be trying acupuncture pronto to stave off surgery. Many patients feel immediate improvements which is very encouraging. Caught early, the tension clears faster. Point sites will be local to the lower back, but also up to the upper back and neck area (where some great exit points live). We will look at your whole health history, sports traumas, falls, bumps and bruises, as well as all other stories. The body likes to remember its history to help protect you. Some of these residual “fight, flight, fall, and freeze” patterns are part of the whoops and yikes that slips and falls cause. Acupuncture helps to reduce the residual effects that linger (for years). When I look at your tongue, I will see for example a little tremor or jiggle as you put your tongue out. There is the evidence to me that you harbor some old injuries. There is more information on the tongue and the pulse, in addition to your history. Also, when I see flinching during touch or treatment, I again know there has been trauma.

Back pain is one of the most frequently treated symptoms at my office. Most people clear up nicely.

Cluster Headaches – Acupuncture Can Clear Up Most Cases!

Image

Cluster Headaches Cleared By Acupuncture

Cluster headaches are not your average headache.

A cluster headache is a headache that is more painful, somewhat similar to a migraine. In most cases, it strikes extremely suddenly, and can last from 15 minutes to more than three weeks. It tends to be a unilateral headache (affecting only one side of the head) and some medical experts claim that the cluster headache is one of the most painful conditions known to medical science. Kidney stones, labor, cracked ribs, etc, are on that list.

The cause of a cluster headache is unknown, but similar to other headaches, there is often a warning “shadow” (a series of painful sensations) that occurs beforehand. Although there is no known trigger, research has pointed to genetics, as sufferers almost always have one or more relatives who also suffer from cluster headaches.

Acupuncture is very helpful in clearing up the causes to the cluster headaches, although a series of treatments will be required. The patient may not feel immediate improvement during the first treatment, but signs of improvements do encourage the patient to complete a full series, and improvement does come  along the way. Point sites will be chosen on the abdomen, upper back, head, ear, hands, and perhaps feet. The choice will vary based on a thorough history and exam. In my experience through many years, I have seen most cases clear up nicely. Definitely try acupuncture!

Nausea – Acupuncture Can Often Treat with Immediate Success

Image

Acupuncture Can Relieve Nausea

Nausea is a condition whose symptoms include discomfort in the stomach and often gives the sufferer an involuntary urge to vomit. A common cause of nausea is the body being in motion it can’t control (also referred to as sea sickness or motion sickness). The same symptoms sometimes affect pregnant women, but this is not due to motion sickness.

There are also other issues that can cause a person to feel nauseous, including food poisoning, dehydration, some medications (such as chemo), migraines, and vertigo. In a large number of cases, a stomach infection is to blame for the nausea, but in about 10% of cases, the root cause is unknown.

Acupuncture will treat nausea often with immediate success. Depending on the causes, more treatments will be relevant. We will evaluate your history, your tongue, and your pulse energies to determine what more is involved to be treated. Emotions and diet come to mind, as well as other medical issues. Acupuncture is a holistic therapy, considering the whole body-mind complex when considering a single symptom-it doesn’t exist alone.

Heartburn? Acupuncture!

Image

Acupuncture Relieves Heartburn

Heartburn (commonly referred to as “acid indigestion”) is a digestive disorder that is characterized by a burning sensation in the chest area, but can radiate to the upper abdomen and mouth area. It is extremely common, as 42% of the U.S. population has suffered from it on at least one occasion.

It’s important to note that heartburn shares symptoms with some more serious issues, namely heart disease. Ignoring heartburn or a misdiagnosis can be a fatal error, so it’s important to communicate the symptoms to your medical professional.

Acupuncture is very helpful in treating the underlying causes to digestive discomfort. Point sites are located on the abdomen, back, legs, feet, even possibly the ear. The treatments are painless, gentle, and give relief quickly. A few treatments and you are a believer. Diet changes, and relaxation techniques will be helpful, as you can imagine. The treatments are actually relaxing and that is also important to schedule – time to relax! Time for you to get a chance to heal yourself.

Blood Pressure Issues — Acupuncture Treatments Help!

Acupuncturist at workHigh blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the body becomes elevated. The most prevalent type is classified as “primary hypertension”, and a far less-common type of hypertension is “secondary hypertension”, which is caused by a condition in another part of the body, such as the heart, kidneys or endocrine system.

Left untreated, high blood pressure is a leading cause of strokes, heart attack, kidney failure and arterial aneurysm. Although sometimes hypertension is inherited, everybody can benefit by maintaining a healthy weight, reducing sugar and sodium intake, avoiding stress, quitting smoking, and exercising on a regular basis. We often see low blood pressure in people with migraines, and also with motion and altitude sickness people.

Acupuncture is very helpful in the treatment of high blood pressure. The choice of point sites varies with the consideration of other factors in the medical history, but often I choose point sites on the back (the Bladder meridian) which is a pathway that contains “metal” energy even though it is the yang meridian of the water element. Metal energy here provides the back and the rest of the body with a contractive energetic.

Hypertension means a little too much tension or contractive energetic going into the muscles and the smooth muscle of the arterial walls. That was a little acupuncture-speak, just to let you know how we think, and why we would choose points on the back! The acupuncture treatment helps those point sites release the extra tensive energy out, by way of an intrinsic expansive function those same points sites also have. Have I lost you yet? It is true that the contractive energetic easily dominates over the expansive in certain ways…We all have tight muscles and tendons in the upper back, now, don’t we? We don’t all get high blood pressure, but we can all have some problems from a variety that belong to “tension”, or lack of ease…Relax, smell the roses, take a good breath, and a nice walk. Drink enough water today? Remember, only kindness matters. Smile.

Anemia – Acupuncture Treats the Primary Cause

Acupuncture Helpful with Anemia

Acupuncture Helpful with Anemia

Anemia comes from the Greek word, anaimia, which means lack of blood.
It refers to insufficient red blood cells or hemoglobin in the red
blood cells, which means that the body has difficulty delivering
oxygen to tissues, including muscle and brain cells.

The result? If you’re anemic, you probably feel tired and possibly grumpy, lack
energy and strength and experience headaches or shortness of breath.
Because all cells depend on oxygen, long-term oxygen deprivation can
have a wide range of clinical consequences, from inability to
concentrate to inferior motor skills, to a heart attack!
Causes of anemia include B12, folic acid or iron deficiency,
insufficient red blood cell production, immune system problems or
excessive loss of blood.

Acupuncture works by effectively treating the primary cause of anemia.
If the primary cause is nutrient deficiency, along with increased
nutrients, acupuncture will improve nutrient absorption by helping to
heal the intestine lining. If the primary cause is lack of hemoglobin
or red blood cells, I will use acupuncture to stimulate bone marrow
for more effective red blood cell production. This is one instance
where a small amount of treatment can equal a large amount of cure!
