Reduce Bloating and Digestive Issues with Acupuncture

Acupuncture brings relief from gas and other digestive issues.

Acupuncture brings relief from gas and other digestive issues.

Soothe bloating and other stomach discomforts with acupuncture!

We all have a tendency to overindulge when celebrating with family or friends, or with tempting leftover Halloween candy.

If you feel bloated, you may be receiving a signal that the body is not digesting food properly. Sometimes poor digestion results from intolerance to a specific food, such as gluten or lactose. Other causes include irritable bowel syndrome, not drinking enough water, eating high-fat foods and stress.

If indigestion, gas or bloating bother you more than just an occasional episode from overeating, acupuncture treatments can help!

Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system. It eases symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving indigestion, stomach ache and acid reflux, bloating and constipation.

Acupuncture works immediately to harmonize, balance, and strengthen your digestive system. Acupuncture may also benefit patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture helps to calm the nerves, resulting in a relaxed body, and a happy, healthy digestive system. It’s also a great immunity boost!

Don’t suffer from digestive discomfort. Try acupuncture!

Prevention can also be helpful. Here’s a few tips to avoid bloating.

Go for a short walk after meals -- it's good for your digestion!

A short walk after meals is good for your digestion!

  • Eat slowly! Take time to enjoy your food — you avoid swallowing air, which can lead to gas retention.
  • Avoid salt – an extra salty meal may lead to water retention, which causes bloating.
  • Avoid fatty foods – fats take longer for the body to process, hindering digestion.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks – as you consume these drinks, carbon dioxide gas builds up in your body. This can quickly lead to bloating, especially if you drink them quickly. Plain water is best.
  • Go for a walk – a short walk can alleviate bloating after a meal.

Boost Your Energy with Acupuncture!

Get Energized This Autumn with Acupuncture!

Get Energized This Autumn with Acupuncture!

Feeling your spirits drag with the change of the clock?
Acupuncture boosts your energy!

If you feel tired and drained, you are not alone. “Lack of energy” is one of the top five complaints that acupuncturists hear.

There are a number of conditions that may be responsible for your fatigue. These include anemia, thyroid issues, low blood sugar, and chronic fatigue syndrome. However, if these conditions have been ruled out, you may have a tough time getting to the bottom of why you’re so tired.

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which works on the principle that all the organs in the body have an energy (Qi). Energy travels out of the organs and connects to your skin through channels called meridians. The meridians are connected all over your body.

There are many reasons why your Qi supplies get depleted. Poor diet, digestive issues, illness, working too hard, stress and strong emotions, and even chronic pain can all deplete your energy. If the energies become out of balance through stress, overwork or excess partying, you may experience low energy levels, digestive disorders or not being able to sleep properly.

Acupuncture works to clear obstructions and maximize the flow of energy and blood through the healing mechanisms of the body, including the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. This enhances the body’s own innate healing capacity and leads to an overall increase in energy and vitality.

Reset Your Inner Clock! Acupuncture Brings Relief from Jet Lag

Travel Easy with Acupuncture!

Jet lag? Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

Don’t let jet lag ruin the end of a great vacation — Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

We’ve all been there. After coming home from traveling, the insomnia, fatigue, disturbed digestion and a loss of appetite can really make you wish for another vacation!

Acupuncture is based on the theory that Qi, the body’s motivating energy, flows in a 24 hour cycle. The body’s functions are tied into this, much the same as the biological clock recognized by Western medicine.

When you travel across time zones, your body clock falls out of sync. Certain organs are more easily affected by changes in time zones, with those associated with sleep, digestion and bowel function the most likely to be affected. In trying to readjust, people often carry out activities, such a eating, exercising or sleeping at a different time than the one dictated by their body clock. This explains why digestive issues and insomnia are the most common symptoms of jet lag. In addition, sitting in one spot for most of the flight can make you feel stiff and sore.

Acupuncture Brings Restful Sleep - Fairfield, CT

Relief from Insomnia with Acupuncture!

Resetting the body clock using acupuncture can help ease jet lag symptoms. Getting a treatment can definitely help restore your equilibrium, and boost your immunity. Acupuncture also stimulates blood flow, making it especially helpful in treating the stiffness and soreness associated with jet lag. The body always feels nice and relaxed afterwards allowing you to have a really good night’s sleep.

You’ll want to get acupuncture within 24 hours or so of landing in order for it to be most effective, but there are steps you can take on your journey to minimize the effect of jet lag:

  • Carry out the appropriate activity for the time zone you are going to.  For example, when you board the plane, if it is the middle of the night in your destination, try and go straight to sleep.
  • Try some relaxation techniques or breathing exercises to reduce tension in your body. Being relaxed will minimize the disruption to your body clock.
  • Staying hydrated is important! Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.

Many people turn to food for comfort, or when they’re bored. Emotional eating is eating as a way to suppress or soothe negative emotions, such as stress, anger, fear, boredom, sadness and loneliness. Negative emotions can be triggered by both major life events and the stresses of daily life, such as job loss, money problems, health isssues, relationship issues, work stress, or fatigue.

The good news is that if you’re prone to emotional eating, you can take steps to regain control of your eating habits and get back on track with your weight-loss goals. Acupuncture!

Acupuncture affects physical wellness, as well as the emotional and mental aspects of weight loss. Acupuncture will bring your individual physiology back into balance and strengthen your digestive system. This helps your metabolism and appetite while eliminating unhealthy food cravings or patterns of over-eating. Acupuncture also addresses symptoms such as abdominal bloating, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and reflux.

Acupuncture works to clear the mind, build energy, and give a sense of well being and relaxation. The best part? There are no harmful side effects and no possibility for addiction.

Stop the cycle of emotional eating! Acupuncture can help with digestive problems, appetite control, weight loss, emotional and food related issues as well as a range of other health problems.

Avoid Dehydration — Acupuncture Refreshes!

Avoid dehydration - drink more water and get acupuncture!

Avoid dehydration – drink more water and get acupuncture!

Are you dehydrated? Drink your water, and get acupuncture!

Summer’s here, and it’s easy to get dehydrated. Water is so important to our body. Water fills empty spaces and transports blood cells. It dissolves all the body solids and increases oxygen to the cells. It is the glue that keeps the solid parts of cells together, is the main source of energy production and also regulates energy by osmotic balancing. Everything in your body needs water to live.

Unfortunately, thirst isn’t always a reliable source of the body’s need for water, especially for children and older adults. Water is lost from the body from sweating, urinating, breathing, and bowel movements. How do you know if you’re dehydrated? Consider your personal color instead  — a better gauge is the color of your urine. Clear or light-colored urine means you’re well hydrated, whereas a dark yellow or amber color usually signals dehydration.

Time to drink more water! Here’s what can happen if you don’t…

Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness — children are likely to be less active than usual
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears when crying
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

Severe dehydration, a medical emergency, can cause:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Extreme fussiness or sleepiness in infants and children; irritability and confusion in adults
  • Very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes
  • Little or no urination — any urine that is produced will be darker than normal
  • Sunken eyes
  • Shriveled and dry skin that lacks elasticity and doesn’t “bounce back” when pinched into a fold
  • In infants, sunken fontanels — the soft spots on the top of a baby’s head
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • No tears when crying
  • Fever
  • In the most serious cases, delirium or unconsciousness

So obviously, we need to pay attention to our hydration levels! When dehydration has occurred, acupuncture can help restore balance.

You can eat your water! About 20% of our daily H2O intake comes from solid foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

You can eat your water! Fresh produce like tomatoes, watermelons and oranges are high in water.

When an acupuncture needle is inserted, it results in increased heat, which results in increased blood flow, and it results in an increase in water to the damaged cells that cause pain. Acupuncture and water work as a team to help heal your body. By increasing the content of water to the damaged cells cellular healing occurs.

The following organs as important team players in the role of creating and moving blood: Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lung, and Liver. Blood needs water to move. If blood does not function properly, then qi (or Life Force) cannot move well either.

Acupuncture isn’t just for dehydration — allergies, arthritis, and high blood pressure are also alleviated with acupuncture.

From Heartburn to Constipation – Acupuncture Eases Digestive Complaints

A Happy, Healthy Belly with Acupuncture!

A Happy, Healthy Belly with Acupuncture!

Take control of your digestive health this summer with acupuncture!

If you are one of the 60-70 million people affected by some form of digestive disorder, there is safe, effective treatment!

Acupuncture can be a wonderful resource for feeling better now and maintaining those improvements over the long term.

Digestive function is a complex process, involving multiple organ systems, enzymes and hormones. Our digestive system is also home to many of the body’s immune cells. If our digestive system is not functioning properly, it needs to use enzymes normally associated with our immune system, thus weakening our immunity, and without proper elimination of waste products, the build up of toxic by-products in our body increases, leading to a greater chance of illness.

Poor digestive function can be affiliated with fatigue, accelerated aging, allergies, weak immune system and cancers, to a name a few.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help people gain digestive health, and heal while improving immunity!

Acupuncture is very helpful for many common digestive disorders including:

  • Acid Reflux
  • Constipation
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating/excess gas
  • Heartburn
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Celiac Disease
Have a healthy summer with acupuncture!

Have a healthy summer with acupuncture!

In traditional Chinese medicine, disease is seen as an imbalance of qi, or vital energy, in the body. The placement of needles at different points in the body helps unblock and stimulate this flow of energy. Acupuncture works to help your body heal and resolve the problem. Treatment is based on each individual’s needs, which could include either an excess or deficiency of qi.

Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system. It eases symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving indigestion, stomach ache and acid reflux, bloating and constipation. Acupuncture may also benefit patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture works to relieve the body of these stressors by helping to calm the nerves thus inducing a state of relaxation. A relaxed body, and a happy, healthy digestive system!

Traveling Have You Sick to Your Stomach? Acupuncture Eases Queasiness

Travel Easy with Acupuncture!

Travel Easy with Acupuncture!

Don’t let nausea or motion sickness keep you from exploring the wild blue yonder!

Acupuncture is very helpful for those who suffer from motion sickness, and relieves the symptoms of nausea and vertigo so that you can be a happy traveler!

Motion sickness is very common, especially on boats. Why does it happen?  When your brain gets conflicting signals, and your eyes sense relative stillness, but your balance and position centers sense motion — well, this can spell trouble.  The body’s mechanism that determines motion and orientation becomes confused, nausea sets in and…you’re now looking for the powder room.

Chances are you know by now whether or not you’re affected by motion sickness and here’s some good news!

Acupuncture treats the nausea and vertigo associated with motion sickness, often with immediate success. Depending on the causes, more treatments will be relevant.  Often low blood pressure people are sensitive to altitude and motion sickness. That relates to an imbalance between the neurological and vascular systems. Acupuncture is a holistic therapy, considering the whole body-mind complex when considering a single symptom — it doesn’t exist alone.

Acupuncture is a wonderful holistic therapy that looks into all the relationships that are important for generating these symptoms. We treat several meridians, with local point sites to the surface of the stomach area, as well as back points, and leg points. A complete history helps to uncover all of the factors that can be participating. The procedures are relatively painless, and can even be relaxing.

HERE’S SOME MORE HELPFUL TIPS FOR HAPPY TRAVELING!

  • Try eating/drinking ginger before, during and after traveling. Ginger root is a classic remedy because of its widely recognized anti-emetic (nausea-preventing) effects. If you don’t mind the heat, try ginger coated in sugar, ginger biscuits, ginger mints and/or ginger tea.
  • Peppermint tea is also a great soother. Fresh mint can be bought in the produce section of your supermarket, and mint tea is another great resource for easing nausea. Letting a peppermint candy melt in your mouth also can help.
  • Can’t stand peppermint, or smelling it makes you feel worse? Try lemon drops!

Shed Those Extra Pounds! Acupuncture Helps You Achieve Weight Loss Goals

Acupuncture Aids in Weight Loss!

Acupuncture Aids in Weight Loss!

Summer weather has arrived, and acupuncture is your weight loss ally!

You are beautiful now. No doubt about it. But if you are looking to shed some extra pounds, acupuncture is an effective, natural and safe means of getting you to your optimum weight!

There are many reasons people become overweight – lack of exercise, overeating, hormone imbalances, slowed metabolism, and poor nutrition are a few of the most common.

Acupuncture is a great alternative treatment for establishing a healthy weight. It works as an appetite suppressant, aids in digestion, helps boost metabolism and enables relaxation. Acupuncture helps balance hormones, and decreases the hormones that contribute to weight gain.

It also strengthens the function of the liver, the organ that produces many chemicals critical for digestion, processing nutrients and breaking down of fats. Several studies have shown that when acupuncture is combined with traditional methods of weight loss, patients lose more weight.

Acupuncture releases endorphins, balances hormones and reduces stress!

Acupuncture releases endorphins, balances hormones and reduces stress!

Regular acupuncture treatments have also been shown to help tone and shrink the stomach muscle, and this helps you feel full faster.

Acupuncture affects both physical wellness and mental aspects of weight loss. An increased level of endorphins is helpful in curbing your cravings, and this can be particularly helpful for those who deal with emotional eating. This can help reduce binge eating. Acupuncture will leave you feeling calm and relaxed and often less hungry.

Best of all, with acupuncture, there are no harmful side effects and no possibility for addiction.

Along with a healthy eating plan and appropriate exercise, acupuncture is a wonderful way to help you lose weight.

Acupuncture Helps Your Digestive System Feel Jolly!

Acupuncture for Digestive Health!

Acupuncture for Digestive Health!

When Holiday Feasting turns into Post-Holiday Digestive Nightmare, acupuncture brings the gift of relief!

Show of hands — how many people are feeling the aftermath of overindulging from the holidays?

Studies show between 60-70 million people are affected by some form of digestive disorder. When you figure in the holidays, and the average person taking in quite a bit more of that glazed ham/rib roast/tofurkey/baked fill-in-the-blank than they can handle, that’s a lot of aching digestive systems.

Happy life = happy guts!

Let Acupuncture give you the year-round gift of a happy digestive system!

Acupuncture has been used for a very, very long time to help people gain digestive health, and heal while improving immunity!

Relieve Digestive Issues with Acupuncture!

  • Acid Reflux
  • Constipation
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Acupuncture corrects the imbalances and regulates digestion. Acupuncture addresses the acute and immediate symptoms that are occurring in your digestive system. Acupuncture evaluates more of your history and other symptoms as well to get a greater understanding of your body’s condition, and will then choose other point sites located on your legs, arms, back, etc. to facilitate a deeper clearing and correction of the chronic symptoms you frequently experience. Food allergies, and sensitivities will improve.

Acupuncture will give immediate improvements, and a longer series of treatments will help to clear up really stubborn conditions with deeper and older causes.
