Fatigue is a general term for a number of issues that affects people mentally, physically, or both. Also referred to as exhaustion, lethargy, languidness, tiredness, languor, lassitude, and listlessness, fatigue is typically classified as a symptom as opposed to a condition. Physical fatigue is indicated by a general lethargy or listlessness, while mental fatigue is characterized by a feeling of drowsiness and an inability to pay attention.
There are several reasons why people experience fatigue; they run the gamut from the easily remedied (not enough sleep, poor dietary choices and/or too little exercise) to the life threatening (heart disease, cancer, neurological disorders). Fatigue poses a danger to sufferers because normal brain and physical activity is often compromised.
Acupuncture helps to improve fatigue also immediately, after the first treatment. Often patients remark that for even other primary concerns, fatigue was the first improvement they noticed. That is encouraging, and helps them continue further treatments for the other perhaps more stubborn symptoms. When treating fatigue specifically, point sites on the spleen meridian energy system will be considered, as well as possibly the kidney energy system. Sugar in the diet needs to be reduced. A complete history, with tongue and pulse diagnosis, helps to determine all the points to be included. One term we might use is Spleen Qi Xu. There are others as well, and our conversations will clarify what is meant. Take your vitamins, fresh organic food, and call for a visit.
“I suffered from extreme fatigue and a feeling of strong lack of mental focus, or brain fog. This has been getting worse for months, causing difficulty at school and work. After just one acupuncture treatment, the fog cleared, and my focus was way better. After a few (3) treatments, I am able to maintain my energy throughout the day without feeling tired or sluggish. The cold I started to get cleared away. I would recommend to anyone to try acupuncture. It brings a new wave of relaxation to your mind.”
