Leg pain can occur anywhere from the hip down to the heel, and can come in many forms, such as pain that is constant versus intermittent, pain that develops suddenly versus gradually, or pain that affects the entire leg versus a certain area such as the knee or shin. The quality of the pain can also range, from dull and aching to tingling or sharp and stabbing. Because we rely on our legs to get us around, leg pain can interfere with our daily lives by affecting our ability to walk, put weight on the leg or feel stable standing on our own two feet.
Most often leg pain is caused by damage to a bone, muscle, ligament or tendon. However, leg pain doesn’t always originate in your leg, spinal problems or injuries can cause pain to radiate into the leg from the lower back, such as with sciatica. Other conditions can also cause leg pain such as infections; vascular disorders including blood clots or varicose veins; and narrowed arteries that can reduce blood flow to the legs and cause pain with exercise.
Acupuncture is a very effective treatment for many causes of leg pain. It works very well for acute or chronic muscle tension and soreness, even if there is no diagnosed injury. Acupuncture relaxes the individual muscle fibers, releases endorphins, and increases blood flow to tense and blocked areas. Not only can acupuncture reduce the pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with shin splints, it reduces the inflammation and pain of bursitis to promote recovery, and as with many injuries, acupuncture reduces the pain, inflammation and tension of Plantar Fasciitis. It also relaxes muscles in the lower legs and low back which relate to the soles of the feet through the fascia.
In case of leg cramps, acupuncture can effectively suppress overactive muscles, and play a role in promoting circulation, loosen the tendons, alleviate the cramps and ease pain. Acupuncture treatment for muscle cramps will typically involve restoring the liver energy flow and treating any problems with the way that it is functioning.
Each case will be treated according to the condition of the individual, and we will identify the symptoms and body signs of each patient to diagnose the body imbalances, working holistically with the whole person. Repair of tissue injury can be accelerated, pain relieved, overall health and function of the liver, kidney and hormonal system can be enhanced, and the activities of the blood and qi are freed.
And best of all, the pain is gone! Acupuncture strengthens the leg(s) and body so that all are functioning in better health. This lets you feel better, be less prone to a repeat injury or future painand get out there to have some more fun!
Thank You Ingri For Changing My Life
“When I first tried acupuncture 20 years ago, I was a little skeptical. I suffered so much pain and nerve damage that Ingri could not come near my leg without me going into a nervous attack. But over the years, [she has helped me] change the way I think about pain; I now relax, breathe and let the needles do their work. Acupuncture is a wonderful tool, when it is done by a master like Ingri. You will see and feel the results right away. Thank you, Ingri, for changing my life around. I will always be your patient and friend.” — Steve, Fairfield, CT

I Now Have My Life Back — I Wish I had Come Sooner
I came in initially with very severe leg pain near inner thigh and groin. After having x-rays that showed arthritis, my surgeon recommended left hip replacement as the pain was unbearable. I could not walk at all, even with a cane. After 3-4 treatments with acupuncture, I had relief, and after the 5th treatment, I had no pain! I feel great physically, emotionally, and mentally. In other words…”I now have my life back”. Pain severity was from 0-10 — more than 10, and for 4 years. I wish I had come sooner. Physical therapy did nothing for me, so it is so wonderful that acupuncture exists and made a new life for me. — J. H. Stern, Fairfield, CT
