Seriously Upset? Ease Digestive Complaints with Acupuncture

Don’t suffer from bloating or other digestive upsets!
Keep your body happy with acupuncture!

If indigestion, gas or bloating bother you more than just an occasional episode from overeating, acupuncture treatments can help!

Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system. It eases symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving indigestion, stomach ache and acid reflux, heartburn, bloating and constipation.

Acupuncture is safe, natural, effective and drug-free, and is often more effective than prescription drugs.

In a 2007 University of Arizona study, people with chronic heartburn who didn’t respond to prescription antacids underwent acupuncture twice a week. Their symptoms improved far more than those of people who took a double dose of the drug. Their chest pain decreased 82 percent, heartburn dropped 83 percent, and acid reflux fell 77 percent.

Researchers found a decrease in stomach acid and that digestion sped up, so less acid backed up into the esophagus. “It also seems to reduce pain perception in the esophagus,” stated study coauthor Ronnie Fass, M.D.

Acupuncture is very helpful for many other common digestive disorders including:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Diarrhea
  • Excess Gas
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Celiac Disease

Acupuncture may also benefit patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture works to relieve the body of these stressors by helping to calm the nerves, inducing a state of relaxation.

Help your digestive system get strong and stay strong with acupuncture!

Here’s some helpful tips to combat bloating:

Take a walk – It doesn’t have to be a long walk, just enough physical movement to help stimulate digestion.

Be sure to chew your food thoroughly – Eating quickly can cause air swallowing that leads to bloating. You can decrease bloating simply by chewing your food more. This puts less pressure on your spleen, the system responsible for digestion in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Drink warm liquids – Avoid drinking cold liquids, especially with meals. The digestive organs are made of smooth muscle, and muscles like warmth. Ingesting cold will weaken the digestive system. Warm liquids will help it relax and gain strength over time, reducing bloating. Drink most fluids between meals and to only have small sips at meal time.

Get Safe, Gentle Insomnia Relief with Acupuncture

Do you want safe and effective help with your sleep issues? Try acupuncture!

As many insomnia sufferers know, a lack of sleep means more than a sluggish start the next morning. According to the National Sleep Foundation, it can contribute to problems ranging from weight gain to heart ailments.

In many cases, the consequences of a sleepless night can cause problems in relationships, too — both personal and professional. Acupuncture can help you get a good night’s sleep so you can rise and shine feeling refreshed, and ready to face the day.

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to successfully treat a wide variety of ailments and concerns including sleep disturbances. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory dictates that the body’s energy, or qi, circulates through twelve meridians, which are linked to internal organs and emotions. The heart meridian, for instance, relates to anxiety, the liver meridian to stress and anger, the spleen meridian to worry.

Too much of any of these emotions can influence the energy of our emotional body, and affect our sleeping patterns. If our body’s qi is blocked, it can keep us from falling asleep, prevent REM sleep, and cause us to wake up easily.

Acupuncture can free up energetic blocks, and lead to ideal movement and function throughout the body — essential to a good night’s sleep.

Acupuncture works by approaching the mind and body holistically to address internal imbalance, encouraging the flow of natural energy, and releasing physical and mental tension.

It also relaxes muscle tension, enhances circulation, and promotes better sleep!

Acupuncture is helpful for treating all sleep problems. The therapy boosts your mood and immune system. It is also effective for the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and chronic fatigue.

The best part? Acupuncture is safe, natural, effective and drug-free.

Get Fast Headache Relief with Acupuncture!

Acupuncture treats the symptoms and causes of headaches, naturally!

Do you suffer from headaches that ruin your day and upset your life? Well, suffer no more. There is relief to be had through acupuncture.

Acupuncture has been successfully used to relieve headaches and migraines (as well as their underlying causes) for thousands of years — and without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause.

Do any of these headache triggers sound familiar to you?

  • Stress
  • Drinking alcohol, and red wine in particular
  • Sensory overload — exposure to lights that are too bright, sounds that are too loud, or smells that are overpowering
  • Dehydration — not drinking enough water
  • Too much or not enough sleep
  • Exercising too rigorously
  • Hormonal changes
  • Not eating frequently enough
  • Smoking
  • Straining your eyes reading or sitting at a computer
  • A difference in your caffeine intake — just skipping your morning cup for one day can cause a caffeine-withdrawal headache.

Acupuncture to the rescue! Because “headache” is a blanket term for over 200 conditions that fall into multiple classifications, the symptoms (and treatment) depends on the type of headache.

Migraines and headaches can be treated preventatively, and a few acupuncture treatments will clear up most migraine patterns, permanently.

Acupuncture always looks to the underlying causes as well, and thereby can help to prevent any future occurrences. At CT Acupuncture each person is evaluated individually, and their history and other symptoms are taken into consideration when determining treatment points. Treatment point will vary from person to person. Best of all, the acupuncture treatments are painless and gentle.

Acupuncture Helps Boost Your Metabolism — and Your Health!

Boost your health with acupuncture!

If you want to keep your appetite under control, improve your digestion, and enhance your overall health, acupuncture is the answer!

Metabolism is a key factor in weight control. Boosting the metabolism is the goal of those concerned about their weight everywhere. How quickly your body burns calories depends on several factors. Some people inherit a speedy metabolism, others do not. Men tend to burn more calories than women, even while resting. And for most people, the metabolism slows steadily after age 40.

Weight gain is often the result of disturbed energy flow to and from the hypothalamus, the regulating center of the brain.  Your body is a finely tuned instrument, and the hypothalamus is the body’s dispatch center that regulates hormones and neurochemicals, and helps to control body temperature, circadian rhythm, thirst and hunger. Acupuncture brings this energy back into balance.

A history of irregular eating, overeating and even thyroid dysfunction all contribute to a slow metabolism. Acupuncture can help to increase metabolism by stimulating the thyroid and endocrine glands as your body adjusts to the changes in your diet and exercise.

In addition, acupuncture can power up any other weight control strategy by curbing appetite, quelling cravings, improving digestion, regulating obesity-related hormones and enhancing the way nutrients are used. It also strengthens the function of the liver, the organ that produces many chemicals critical for digestion, processing nutrients and breaking down of fats. Acupuncture may also increase tone in the smooth muscle of the stomach to help people know that they are full.

Boost Your Metabolism with Acupuncture, and Fall in Love with Food Again!

Love Food? Boost Your Metabolism with Acupuncture!

Bonus: Acupuncture treatments release endorphins which have a calming and relaxing effect. It makes it easier to deal with stress, frustration and anxiety that can trigger overeating fattening foods.

Those endorphins also affect the digestive and hormonal systems. Acupuncture can help rebalance the organ systems that are running too fast, or in this case too slow; specifically your metabolism and will power. If lack of energy is an issue, acupuncture treatments will give that a boost, too!

Give yourself the gift of improved health and get relief from pain and stress today! Schedule an appointment at the CT Acupuncture Center.

Gentle and Effective Treatment for Depression with Acupuncture

Relieve depression with acupuncture!

Get back into emotional balance naturally with acupuncture!

Are you suffering from depression? Depression affects one in ten Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

How does one know if they’re depressed? When someone is feeling sad, hopeless, discouraged, unmotivated or disinterested for over 2 weeks, or these feelings start to interfere with their activities and duties it could be a major depressive episode. For men, depression can also show up as irritability, anger, or self-destructive behavior.

There are a large number of causes for depression, including genetics, chemical imbalances, hormone issues and other medical conditions. Depression may also be the result of a “dysregulation” of the seven emotions — joy, anger, worry, contemplation, grief, fear and shock.  If acupuncture is able to reestablish a balance among these emotions, the symptoms of depression are relieved.

Treating depression with acupuncture has a positive and holistic effect on depressed patients, and avoids the potential side effects of traditional medication. Acupuncture often gives an immediate improvement on the symptoms present, as well as a deeper improvement on the underlying causes.

In addition to acupuncture, here’s a few suggestions to ease depression.

Be sure that you're getting plenty of light, fresh air and exercise!

Be sure that you’re getting plenty of light and exercise!

1. Practice Meditation. At a minimum, take some time out of your day to focus on everything you love in life.  In addition, with meditation, you can boost both serotonin and norepinephrine levels (important neurotransmitters in the brain), naturally.

2. Be in nature, or at least pretend to be.  Humans evolved over millions of years living outside.  Bright light therapy has been shown in several trials to helps alleviate depressive symptoms.  If you can, install some bright lights inside your work space.  Adding a few plants to your work space also brings nature inside, and provides free extra oxygen! Being outside is even better, because you’ll also increase your vitamin D levels naturally.

3. Exercise.  The right kind of exercise can do wonders for your body and mind.  Not only will it get you leaner, stronger, and help you live longer, it also improves your mood.

“Let it Go…” Release Stuck Energy and Heal with Acupuncture

Grief, anger, old wounds, both physical and emotional — wouldn’t it be great to have a tool to help release all that stuck-ness and thrive?
Feeling Stuck? Let it go with acupuncture!

Feeling stuck? Let it go with acupuncture!

Life brings challenges. And that can certainly be an understatement. Everyone gets stressed out, and everyone feels tension and overwhelmed by emotions sometimes.  However, the bad news is that tension in the body can cause energy to be blocked, and that stuck energy affects various organs and meridians within the body.

Traditional Chinese medicine regards emotions as a significant contributor to a person’s health. The body has a history that it subconsciously remembers and that can affect its ability to be optimally functioning and healthy.

In some people, the build up and stagnation of energy can cause muscle tension, pain, and spasms through the shoulders, neck and temples, and cause headaches. If tension isn’t released in a healthy way, it will find an outlet, and it’s often expressed in angry outbursts — while it helps in the short run to relieve the pressure, it sure can cause damage inside and out. And strain relationships. If this stagnation remains unresolved, it can become chronic, and can lead to habitual anger, migraines and high blood pressure among other possible symptoms.

Grief is also a very powerful emotion. The organ considered most connected to grief is the small intestines. The small intestines meridian houses the points related to repression, resistance, and the deep holding of emotions. If blocked, chi (life force) becomes stagnant and can manifest in an array of symptoms such as fatigue, hair loss, insomnia, and depression.

Another place energy can get blocked is in the chest area — this can cause physical symptoms such as shallow or difficult breathing or heart palpitations. The heart is the emotional center, and tension often brings with it feelings of nervousness, anxiety or even feeling emotionally cut-off, which can lead to long- term depression.

For emotional tension, if there is a deficiency of energy in the heart, acupuncture can help to bring energy to the area and to balance it.  A heart that has been closed off emotionally can start to gently relax and open. The heart must be free of blockages and illness to fully express joy, its natural emotion, to its fullest capacity.

Acupuncture is used to unblock energy, and move it through channels in the body and either balance it or repel it from the body via the meridian system, balancing emotional levels. This causes energy to flow freer in the channels of the body, strengthening the organs, removing the blocked emotions,  allowing the person to feel more relaxed, balanced, and able to focus.

Acupuncture also stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals decrease inflammation and pain and bring your system back into balance. This energetic and biochemical balance stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities and promotes physical well-being.  Acupuncture promotes blood flow,  stimulates the body’s built-in healing mechanisms, releases natural painkillers (such as endorphins, norepinephrine and enkephalin) and reduces stress. Interested in How Stress is Relieved by Acupuncture?
