Feeling Anxious This Fall? Acupuncture Balances Emotions

Acupuncture Brings Balance to Anxiety Sufferers

Acupuncture Brings Balance to Anxiety Sufferers

The change of season is beautiful, but when anxiety gets overwhelming, acupuncture is a great autumn friend!

Anxiety is a very common issue. In the United States, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million adults — women twice more than men.

Some stress is normal in life. But when the levels get too high, anxiety can cause such distress that it interferes with someone’s ability to lead a normal life. Distress can disturb the body’s internal balance, leading to physical symptoms such as headaches, an upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, sexual dysfunction, and difficulty sleeping. Emotional problems can also result from distress.

There is no reason to suffer from anxiety any longer.

Acupuncture is a powerful treatment for relieving anxiety. It is highly effective in treating emotional problems, and it also addresses the physical realm, relieving the headaches, upset stomach, muscle aches, insomnia, and irritability that anxiety and stress can cause.

Treatment for anxiety varies from person to person, as there is no “one size fits all” type of treatment, as different people have different personalities, different needs, and of course, different symptoms. There are many ways of dealing with anxiety, but acupuncture is an extraordinarily helpful tool. Acupuncture often gives an immediate improvement on the symptoms present, as well as a deeper improvement on the underlying causes.

Enjoy Autumn! Acupuncture Brings Anxiety Relief

Enjoy Autumn! Acupuncture Brings Anxiety Relief

Acupuncture works well with diet corrections, supplementation, as well as necessary medications.

It is important to make sure that your body is getting adequate Vitamin D, as our bodies aren’t getting as much sun as we have in the previous summer months, and as a result we aren’t producing as much Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is also important for immunity, bone health and heart health, and it helps protect against cancer. Vitamin D supplements may improve seasonal anxiety and depression that worsen during the winter months.

Magnesium is also very helpful — it’s a calming mineral that nourishes the nervous system. Magnesium is also very protective of the heart and arteries; again, this is important if you suffer from anxiety or panic attacks.

Meditation and exercise are also important additions to a healthy approach. It is also important to stay hydrated.

Let acupuncture bring you back into balance, and to enjoy this beautiful season!

Seasonal Allergies – Acupuncture Works Without Side Effects

Relief from Seasonal Allergies with Acupuncture!

Relief from Seasonal Allergies with Acupuncture!

There’s no need to suffer with seasonal allergies — acupuncture brings relief, holistically!

It’s not just Spring — the changing of Summer to Autumn can cause allergies to act up. What causes this reaction? Pollen that is spread by the wind is usually the main culprit of seasonal allergies.

And it’s not just pollen. People who are allergic to pollen are also often sensitive to mold, ragweed, dust mites, and animal dander. If that sounds like you, you’re not alone. About 26 million Americans endure chronic seasonal allergies, while the number of people with milder symptoms may be as high as 40 million, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

Most symptoms become apparent within 5 or 10 minutes of exposure to the allergens and typically include sneezing, dry and unproductive coughing, wheezing, itchy sensations on the roof of the mouth or at the back of the throat, swollen sinuses leading to a stuffy nose and headaches, a runny nose, itching, watery and reddened eyes, reduced sense of smell and taste, and disturbed sleep. That can certainly make it hard to concentrate and perform daily tasks, especially at work or school.

Acupuncture Relieves Sinus Issues -- Naturally! - Visit our office in Wilton, Bethel or Fairfield, CT

Enjoy the season without the allergies!

Acupuncture is one of the major holistic therapies used for thousands of years to address the underlying energetic relationships in the body that makes those allergic reactions happen. Acupuncture treatments can give immediate relief from the symptoms, and further, it can address the variety of underlying causes.

Best of all, acupuncture is a great way to bring allergy relief and avoid the negative side effects that allergy medications can have. Even if used in conjunction with medication, a combination therapy can at least lessen their impact.

A recent study on the effects of acupuncture on seasonal allergies was published in the February 2013 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. German researchers studied 422 people who tested positive for pollen allergies and found that those who received acupuncture therapy reported improved symptoms and a decrease in their antihistamine use.

Ready for a good night’s sleep? Try acupuncture!

Insomnia is nothing anyone dreams about. When it happens regularly, it can affect your health, your relationships, your job, and the list goes on.

Whether it’s due to a hectic schedule and the wheels in the brain that won’t stop turning, diet issues, an emotional crisis, or other issues, restless nights can be a drag. Acupuncture to the rescue!

Acupuncture is helpful for treating all sleep problems. Acupuncture is often thought of for the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and chronic fatigue. Acupuncture works by approaching the mind and body holistically to address internal imbalance, encouraging the flow of natural energy, and releasing physical and mental tension. Acupuncture can free up energetic and physical blocks, leading to ideal movement and function throughout the body.

Sleep like a baby with acupuncture!

At the initial consultation, we gather information to get a complete picture of what is causing the disturbed sleep. Also important to factor in is the age of the patient; treatment for children with sleep disorders will be different from that for adults who have the same symptoms.

The therapy boosts your mood and immune system. It relaxes muscle tension, enhances circulation, and promotes better sleep!

Acupuncture provides fast relief to break the cycle of bad sleep, and rebuild your quality of life. Acupuncture combined with lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Most people experience improvement quickly, with few treatments.  The best part? No side effects in the morning aside from feeling energized and well-rested.

May The Odds Be In Your Favor — Acupuncture Improves Fertility

Increase Your Fertility Odds with Acupuncture!

Increase Your Fertility Odds with Acupuncture!

Ready for the pitter-patter of tiny feet? Acupuncture lends a helping hand to your pregnancy from start to finish.

If you have been having difficulty conceiving, or you just want the best possible odds for your pregnancy, acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive and easy way to potentially increase your chances of getting and staying pregnant.

How does acupuncture do this? Acupuncture has been used for centuries to help cure fertility problems by encouraging follicle production, improving blood circulation in the uterus (which creates a more welcoming environment for the embryo), improving uterine lining thickness and egg quality, treating menstrual cycle disorders and improving overall health, which can help you more easily conceive and remain pregnant.

Acupuncture isn’t just for hopeful mothers. Dads-to-be can benefit from acupuncture, too. One of the most beneficial ways acupuncture treatments increase fertility is by reducing stress. When people are under stress, the hormone cortizol is released in the brain, which alters the brain’s neurochemical balance, which changes hormone levels and disrupts the pituitary balance that is key to the reproductive cycle. Stress can alter sperm counts, motility, and cause impotence.

Acupuncture Increases Fertility

Acupuncture Increases Fertility

Acupuncture infertility treatments counter the effects of stress and cortizol, and can have a positive effect on sperm production and quality, without causing any changes in behavior or sexual desire. Acupuncture can lead to significant increases in the number of normal sperm and equally significant reductions in structural defects.

Acupuncture can be used to treat any type of fertility disorder. Acupuncture works at stimulating the hypothalamus to effectively balance the endocrine system and its hormones and to get to the root cause of both male and female infertility. Acupuncture infertility treatments also have the added bonus of producing few or no side effects.

Give yourself and your baby the best possible start. A nice flow of endorphins, stress reduction, a healthy body, balance — acupuncture is effective, relaxing, painless and gentle. Here’s to happy, healthy babies!

If you would like to learn more about how acupuncture can aid in boosting your fertility, visit us at www.ctacupuncture.com or call 203-259-1660 to make an appointment.

High Blood Pressure? Acupuncture Brings You Back into Balance

Stay Heart Healthy with Acupuncture!

Stay Heart Healthy with Acupuncture!

Stay Heart Healthy with Acupuncture!

Is high blood pressure a concern for you or a loved one? Acupuncture can help heart health!

High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the body becomes elevated. More than 90% of hypertension cases are classified as “Primary Hypertension,” which means that no particular medical cause can be pinpointed. The remaining cases (“Secondary Hypertension”) stem either from conditions of the kidneys or the endocrine or circulatory systems. Acupuncture can treat both.

Symptoms of high blood pressure include headaches, dizziness, visual disorientation and drowsiness. According to a new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association, middle-aged Americans face a staggering 90 percent chance of developing hypertension.

If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause of strokes, heart attack, kidney failure and arterial aneurysm — definitely something better to pay attention to rather than ignore.

Stay Young at Heart with Acupuncture!

Stay Young at Heart with Acupuncture!

Acupuncture is very helpful in the treatment of high blood pressure. It has a regulatory effect on blood pressure, whether high or low, by controlling the flow of qi (life energy, life force) and blood throughout the body.

Acupuncture can work alongside other treatment programs. In Western medicine studies suggest that acupuncture helps by regulating hormone levels and body’s sensors (baroreceptors) to normalize low blood pressure.  In many cases it can reduce or even remove the need for traditional blood pressure medications — which can come with many side effects.

Even if you don’t have hypertension, everyone can benefit by maintaining a healthy weight, reducing sugar and sodium intake, finding healthy ways of dealing with stress, quitting smoking, and exercising on a regular basis.

Reset Your Inner Clock! Acupuncture Brings Relief from Jet Lag

Travel Easy with Acupuncture!

Jet lag? Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

Don’t let jet lag ruin the end of a great vacation — Acupuncture helps you feel like flying again!

We’ve all been there. After coming home from traveling, the insomnia, fatigue, disturbed digestion and a loss of appetite can really make you wish for another vacation!

Acupuncture is based on the theory that Qi, the body’s motivating energy, flows in a 24 hour cycle. The body’s functions are tied into this, much the same as the biological clock recognized by Western medicine.

When you travel across time zones, your body clock falls out of sync. Certain organs are more easily affected by changes in time zones, with those associated with sleep, digestion and bowel function the most likely to be affected. In trying to readjust, people often carry out activities, such a eating, exercising or sleeping at a different time than the one dictated by their body clock. This explains why digestive issues and insomnia are the most common symptoms of jet lag. In addition, sitting in one spot for most of the flight can make you feel stiff and sore.

Acupuncture Brings Restful Sleep - Fairfield, CT

Relief from Insomnia with Acupuncture!

Resetting the body clock using acupuncture can help ease jet lag symptoms. Getting a treatment can definitely help restore your equilibrium, and boost your immunity. Acupuncture also stimulates blood flow, making it especially helpful in treating the stiffness and soreness associated with jet lag. The body always feels nice and relaxed afterwards allowing you to have a really good night’s sleep.

You’ll want to get acupuncture within 24 hours or so of landing in order for it to be most effective, but there are steps you can take on your journey to minimize the effect of jet lag:

  • Carry out the appropriate activity for the time zone you are going to.  For example, when you board the plane, if it is the middle of the night in your destination, try and go straight to sleep.
  • Try some relaxation techniques or breathing exercises to reduce tension in your body. Being relaxed will minimize the disruption to your body clock.
  • Staying hydrated is important! Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.

Acupuncture is a Parent’s Number One Back-to-School Supply

Back to School with Acupuncture!

Back to School with Acupuncture!

Back to school! And back to the stress of helping kids with homework and getting them to school on time. Acupuncture can relieve the stress and help boost your immune system.

Summer’s almost over, and school is about to start — wouldn’t it be nice to know you have all the school supplies you and your family needs? (Including more energy, more focus, less stress and better sleep?)

Sounds like a lot to pack in a lunch box? Of course it does. But it’s not too much to expect from regular acupuncture treatments.

Other than stress relief, one of the biggest benefits of acupuncture is the immunity boost it gives you. The likelihood of either you or your child getting sick when kids head back to school increases significantly. Acupuncture boosts your immune system, which can greatly reduce the risk of coming down with the “Illness of the Week”.

In addition to the immunity boost, many people report having more energy in the hours, days and even weeks after acupuncture treatment. In addition to the surge of physical energy, many people notice improved mental clarity, which is important when exam week comes around, or that big presentation.

Don’t stress out! When those deadlines and tests get a bit overwhelming, acupuncture is great at relieving headaches, (even migraines) as well as reducing anxiety, depression and stress.

Acupuncture is great for student athletes, too!

Acupuncture is great for student athletes, too!

Insomnia is one of the most common complaints by students, teachers, and parents alike, and acupuncture can be highly effective at resolving that as well.

Acupuncture is also great for student athletes! Besides keeping the body healthy, well-documented studies have proven over and over the effects of acupuncture in reduction of pain. This is due in part to the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller, along with an increase in blood circulation and lessening of muscle tension.

Relief of pain, stress and anxiety, immunity bolstering, and more energy? Acupuncture gets an A+!

Summer Is No Time For Back Pain! Acupuncture Relieves and Heals

Healthy Backs with Acupuncture!

Healthy Backs with Acupuncture!

Whether it’s from bad physical habits or a sudden strain, acupuncture can bring relief to lower back pain!

There’s nothing like back pain to stop you in your tracks and ruin a fun summer vacation. It’s the main reason patients visit our office. Lower back pain affects up to 80% of the population at one or more times in their life.

The top causes of back pain are sprains from overstretching back ligaments, and strains, (a muscle rip or tear) caused by sudden force. Sprains and strains can happen from poor posture, improper lifting or lack of proper muscle warm up prior to exercise.  In many cases back problems develop over time — from sitting incorrectly at a desk or steering wheel, or repetitive tasks, such as heavy lifting.

Back pain limits range of motion and complicates daily activities. And summer is no time to suffer from back pain!

Freedom from Back Pain with Acupuncture!

Freedom from Back Pain with Acupuncture!

Summer Taking a Toll on Your Skin? Acupuncture Helps Heat Rash

Feeling sticky and hot is bad enough, but when your skin starts showing it’s unhappy, acupuncture brings soothing relief !

Summer is in full swing, and while we are grateful to be enjoying the fun in the sun, our skin can react less than favorably. Heat rash is also known as prickly heat, sweat retention syndrome, and miliaria rubra. This disorder occurs during the summer months or year-round in hot, humid climates, and is caused by blockage of the sweat glands.

Heat rash (or prickly heat) is identified by clusters of small blisters that itch and appear where you perspire the heaviest — the armpits, neck, back, or creases in the elbows, but interestingly enough, never the face.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, skin diseases are generally caused by internal disharmonies, such as lack of Qi (life energy) and blood, or environmental influences, such as wind, dryness, dampness, and heat. Stress, diet, and the person’s constitution also affect these patterns.

In diagnosing skin conditions, in addition to environmental influences, acupuncture considers physical and emotional factors, as well as taking the pulse, asking in-depth questions and observing the tongue and skin. Acupuncture addresses both the cause and the symptoms of a condition. The treatment and diagnosis are tailored to each person’s symptoms. Treatments are effective, painless, and drug-free!

If you suffer from a skin condition, find relief from summer’s heat with acupuncture!

Stay cool (and hydrated!)

Stay cool (and hydrated!)

Here are some more ways to find relief from heat rash.

  • Wear loose, lightweight clothing.
  • Stay hydrated!
  • Take cool baths to reduce itching.
  • Avoid hot, humid environments and stay in air-conditioned surroundings, if possible.

Acupuncture: A Powerful Ally for Addiction Recovery

Acupuncture Aids in Addiction Recovery

Regain control of your life and health with acupuncture!

You don’t need to go through recovery alone! Acupuncture is very helpful in treating all forms of addictions—from alcohol and hard drugs to nicotine and overeating.

Addiction is classified as a chronic illness that causes long-term physical, psychological and social affects. Alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States.

According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, 17.6 million people, or one in every 12 adults, suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence. The statistics for prescription drugs are even more alarming. In fact, the number of people undergoing treatment for prescription painkiller drug abuse and addiction quadrupled from 2004 to 2010.

If use turns into addiction, there is help!

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), any addiction comes from an imbalance in the body’s elements.  In other words, something is causing the body not to do its own healing naturally. When an addict is suffering from an imbalance, they are using a substance like alcohol, drugs or even food to self-medicate. Acupuncture provides a foundation for recovery by bringing the individual physiology back into balance.

Recovery and Relaxation with Acupuncture

Recovery and Relaxation with Acupuncture

Another of the greatest strengths of acupuncture, however, is that its immediate effect is often a cessation of withdrawal symptoms. How does acupuncture achieve that?

Acupuncture stimulates the body to release endorphins, the body’s own “feel-good” chemicals.  It reduces anxiety and agitation while promoting a soothing, relaxing effect to the nervous system, which is extremely helpful to people experiencing any kind of lifestyle change, especially drug withdrawal.  In addition to treating the addiction itself, acupuncture also treats the emotional ties.

Acupuncture gives a sense of well being and relaxation. The best part? There are no harmful side effects. Recovery from drug addiction, like other chronic diseases, is a lifelong process. You don’t need to go it alone.
