Hang on to your Santa hats! There is a gentle and effective way to handle this stress — acupuncture!

Everyone feels stressed occasionally, but when it continues for a long time or gets overwhelming it can take a real toll on your health. The immune system is particularly sensitive to its effects, and the holidays coincide with the cold and flu season. This means that ongoing stress can leave you vulnerable to any number of illnesses that no one would want as a gift.

Stress melts away with acupuncture!

Acupuncture works to strengthen your immunity. Acupuncture heals imbalances in your immune system and also restores energy channels that have become disrupted. When these channels are open, the immune system functions at an optimal level and your body stays healthy.

Acupuncture helps you manage stress and anxiety, and relieve insomnia.  Let that stress melt away like snow from a salted sidewalk! Acupuncture is extremely relaxing and most people fall asleep after the needles are inserted. Patients often report feeling a sense of calm and quiet energy after their treatments, as well a great night’s sleep.

Acupuncture relieves pain. Stress can have a real impact on your physical well-being. Many people report increased pain and discomfort in the upper back, neck, low back or other joints during this time of year. Studies show that acupuncture helps to relieve osteoarthritis, sciatica, neck, back and shoulder pain, migraines and headaches.

Pain relief, stress relief and an immunity boost — acupuncture is a great gift this holiday season!

Acupuncture Will Help Keep Your Appetite Under Control This Winter

Stay balanced and healthy this winter with acupuncture!

Stay balanced and healthy this winter with acupuncture!

Acupuncture is a natural and safe means of balancing your appetite!

It’s wonderful to celebrate the holidays, to feast and enjoy the leftover bounty. But if you want to have help with keeping your appetite under control, improve your digestion and overall health, acupuncture is the answer.

Around the holidays and through the winter, the urge to snack and continue to eat when not specifically hungry or even beyond feelings of fullness can become a problem. It’s important to have a healthy appetite, and to be in balance.

Weight gain is often the result of disturbed energy flow to and from the hypothalamus, the regulating center of the brain.  Your body is a finely tuned instrument, and the hypothalamus is the body’s dispatch center that regulates hormones and neurochemicals, and helps to control body temperature, circadian rhythm, thirst and hunger. Acupuncture brings this energy back into balance.

Acupuncture can power up any other weight control strategy by curbing appetite, stopping cravings, boosting your metabolism, improving digestion, regulating obesity-related hormones and enhancing the way nutrients are used.

Acupuncture is effective, when in combination with diet and exercise, in improving digestive health, relieving stress and anxiety which often lead to emotional eating. It also strengthens the function of the liver, the organ that produces many chemicals critical for digestion, processing nutrients and breaking down of fats.

Acupuncture works to release endorphins, letting you feel less anxious and experience less frustration, and decreases the tendency to overeat and participate in binge eating so often associated with the daily stresses of life.

Acupuncture is a wonderful way to help you maintain a healthy, balanced appetite!

Here’s some more healthy tips to help you avoid weight gain this holiday season!

Enjoy a healthy holiday season!

Enjoy a healthy holiday season!

  • Don’t “save” your calories. Never go to a party hungry. Fill up with healthy choices before the party, so that temptation isn’t overwhelming. Focus on socializing instead.
  • Watch those liquid calories. All those hot chocolates, hot toddies and coffee concoctions can add up fast.
  • Eat and chew slowly. Mindful eating lets you savor everything, and your body will register when it is full in less time.
  • Drink lots of water. Proper hydration is so important!

Enjoy the season!

Winter’s Coming! Strengthen Your Immunity!

Boost Your Immunity with Acupuncture!

Boost Your Immunity with Acupuncture!

Want to increase your immunity? Try acupuncture!

Feeling sick of the cold weather already? Many Americans believe that catching two or three colds a year is normal. They endure the symptoms, often relieving them with over-the-counter medications that can cause serious health injury. They also take cold and flu shots, which can actually cause illness themselves.

But did you know that you can live your life entirely cold-free without taking anything harmful into your system? Your immune system can heal itself the second an intruder sneaks in, preventing a cold from ever happening.

How does it work? Acupuncture acts on the body’s own subtle energy system to clear obstructions and maximize the flow of energy and blood through the healing mechanisms of the body, including the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. This enhances the body’s own innate healing capacity and leads to an overall increase in energy and vitality.

But that’s not all. Treatments often bring about a sense of wonderful relaxation. It has been proven that such deep relaxation helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, which can help reduce stress and anxiety, and expand a sense of well-being.

Acupuncture works to strengthen your immunity.  Acupuncture heals imbalances in your immune system and also restores energy channels that have become disrupted. When these channels are open, the immune system functions at an optimal level and your body stays healthy. Researchers have found that acupuncture enhances the production of natural killer cells, the body’s defense mechanisms against viruses and bacteria. Acupuncture also regulates the activity of white blood cells, which also fight against infection and allergic reactions.

Get relief from pain, depression symptoms and more with acupuncture!

Acupuncture can address the weaknesses in the body in the same way a vaccine addresses weaknesses; by boosting energy and giving the body what it needs to strengthen itself. Acupuncture also helps the brain increase the body’s level of T-cells; cells which destroy bacteria and harmful viruses in the body.

During cold and flu season, particularly for people susceptible to colds, it’s a good idea to boost your immune system every few weeks with acupuncture. The great benefits are that besides avoiding illness, you will see numerous positive side effects, such as a deeper sleep, clearer skin and a more relaxed and positive attitude. Take that, nasty germs!

Acupuncture also aids with pain relief, easing depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and many other ailments. With acupuncture you’re ready for winter!

Get Back to Gardening Your Eden! Acupuncture Relieves Back Pain

Relieve the aches and pains of gardening with acupuncture!

Cultivate health – – Acupuncture eases the strains and sprains of gardening!

You’ve been aching to get at your yard and garden…and now so is your back! More than 80 percent of our population will experience lower back pain at some point in their lives. When you consider 40 million households in the U.S. actively tend a garden, that’s a lot of sore backs.

When gardening, about 80 to 90 percent of the movement is in a bent position which is unnatural on the body and, when prolonged, can lead to lower-back pain. Repetitive bending, reaching, twisting, and lifting – all actions common to gardening, and even light digging, planting, weeding, and mulching over the course of a long gardening season – tend to put the lower-lumbar area of the back at risk.

Remember to stretch before any strenuous activity -- even gardening!

Remember to stretch before any strenuous activity — even gardening!

Back pain is one of the most common reasons why people see their doctor — and their acupuncturist! Acupuncture can effectively help acute and chronic back pain and many other pain related issues naturally. Back pain limits range of motion and complicates daily activities.

Planted the potatoes and now you’re feeling the burn? Some back pain is accompanied by tingling and burning and acupuncture treatments work very well for those conditions as well.

Working in the garden is a wonderful way to get some exercise, grow your own food and flowers, enjoy nature, and nourish your inner self.

Let acupuncture ease your aches and pains so you can get back out there — pain free!

Here’s some more advice to take good care of your back during the gardening season.

  • To prevent overstretching your back, warm up before you start. Try taking a walk around the block, to loosen up your limbs, or a hot shower.
  • Even when you’re warmed up, it’s still possible to injure your back. Repetitive motions and lifting heavy objects improperly are definitely risky garden business for backs. Don’t bend and twist when lifting something heavy!
  • Try switching tasks every 15 minutes, and use knee pads when pulling weeds and planting. Lift with your legs and keep your back straight.

Have You Turned into a Lobster? Acupuncture Relieves Sunburn

Acupuncture Brings Sunburn Relief

Acupuncture Brings Sunburn Relief

If you’ve overdone it in the sun – – Acupuncture brings sunburn relief!

The weather is gorgeous, everyone is out and about in their gardens, playing or hiking outside, or floating on the water. It’s also very easy to forget how quickly an afternoon in the sun can turn someone into a walking lobster.

Acupuncture to the rescue! It’s not necessarily the first thing you think about when you think about sunburn, but acupuncture will not only help soothe the pain, it will make you feel more relaxed in the process.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, sunburn is a trapping of damp heat in the skin that must be treated by releasing the heat and soothing the accompanying pain. In addition, acupuncture can also give the immune system a boost, and relieve the general fatigue and malaise often present after a major sun exposure.

Besides aftercare, a little prevention goes a very long way — here’s some great advice for more fun than burning in the sun.

Tips For Avoiding Sunburn
Love the Sun! But Be Safe!

Love the Sun! But Be Safe!

  • Seems simple…avoid the sun when it’s at super strength. Don’t stay out for long periods of time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you’re outdoors during this time, keep in mind that you’ll burn faster than at other times of the day.
  • Beware of reflective surfaces. Water or sand can bounce as much as 17% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays back at you.
  • Going to be out in the sun for a while? Use clothing such as cover-ups, long, loose-fitting pants and tops, and wide-brimmed hats to protect you. Choose lightweight fabrics that are cool, but will still give you sun protection. Remember your sunglasses! Eyes can burn, too.
  • Wear sunblock. Sunblock will protect your skin from the sun’s rays, but be aware that many contain questionable chemicals that are not typically regulated. Choose natural varieties from your health food store, and be sure to reapply the sunblock if you have been in the water or have been sweating.
  • Be a shady lady or gentleman! A simple way to avoid sunburn is to go in a shaded area to get out of the sun. If a shaded area is not available, use an umbrella. It will also make it easier for your friends and family to locate you on the beach! Win/win!

Don’t Let Ticks Under Your Skin! Acupuncture Helps with Lyme Disease

Splendor in the Grass -- Without the Lyme Disease!

Acupuncture is a great ally for those with Lyme!

Lyme disease doesn’t need to stop you in your tracks – – Acupuncture helps!

Lyme disease by now is the best-known, worldwide example of a tick-borne disease. Many people have Lyme disease without experiencing any discomfort from symptoms. Many others are struggling with complex symptoms of Lyme, but are unaware that they are infected, and so are not getting treatment.

Left untreated, it can lead to permanent problems with the heart, joints and nervous system. Typical symptoms include joint ache, a rash on the skin (particularly in the area surrounding the bite) that often looks like a bull’s eye, headaches, fever, profuse sweating and fatigue, though all of the symptoms are not present in every case. Lyme disease imitates a variety of illnesses and its severity can vary from person to person. Early detection and treatment is vital in preventing Lyme disease from advancing to the later stages.

Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected tick, specifically deer ticks. This tick, which is infested with a spirochete, bites a human and transmits the bacterium into the bloodstream. Fortunately, deer ticks don’t bite humans immediately upon contact; they typically spend several hours crawling around before attaching themselves to the skin. However, if you have been bitten, the symptoms typically appear within 7 to 14 days. A simple blood test is all that is required to determine if Lyme disease is present.

At the earliest point in time, as soon as recognize you may have Lyme, go to a doctor, and get antibiotics immediately. The quicker and earlier the treatment, the better. The spirochetes are a serious problem that require proper antibiotics and MD care.

Optimal Health with Acupuncture!

Optimal Health with Acupuncture!

Acupuncture is highly relevant and helpful for all phases of this disease, and is a wonderful addition to your primary support physician. It can improve the body’s immune response, the healing action, the body chemistry, and correct and support the subtle energetics.

You will be amazed at the immediate improvement of joint symptoms, as well as the chronic fatigue factors that respond to the very first treatments. You can return to being pain-free, with a clear mind and good energy, without unpredictable ups and downs.

Depending on how long you have had Lyme, how many times, or how many years, you will need a series of treatments to hasten your complete recovery. Also important is ongoing attention to a healthy diet, nutritional supplementation, physical activity, and a positive mental outlook. Lyme disease can be a very challenging condition to fight and recover from.  As in all conditions and all patients, each person’s regime of treatment is individually designed.

Send Shin Splints to the Sidelines with Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a great running buddy!

Acupuncture is a great running buddy!

Runners and other athletes take note — acupuncture helps heal injuries!

If you are someone that that has undergone intense athletic training, you’ve most likely experienced shin splints (or tibial stress syndrome) at some point.  It’s very common with runners, dancers, hikers, football players, and even casual walkers.

Shin splints often occur after sudden changes in physical activity. This condition is caused by putting too much strain on the connective tissues that join the shin bones to muscle.

Treating shin splints with acupuncture can be very effective, especially when it is addressed early on, and healing time and pain can be reduced dramatically.  A 2002 study published in the Journal of Chinese Medicine showed that athletes with shin splints who underwent acupuncture reported significantly lower pain levels than athletes who received traditional sports medicine treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medication. Subjects who received acupuncture also found that the pain interfered less with the playing of their sport.

Not only can acupuncture reduce the pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with shin splints, it reduces the inflammation and pain of bursitis to promote recovery, and as in many of these common sports injuries, acupuncture reduces the pain, inflammation and tension of Plantar Fasciitis. It also relaxes muscles in the lower legs and low back which relate to the soles of the feet through the fascia.

Acupuncture is also a very effective treatment for acute or chronic muscle tension and soreness, even if there is no diagnosed injury. Acupuncture relaxes the individual muscle fibers, releases endorphins, and increases blood flow to tense and blocked areas.

Acupuncture is great for all athletes!

Acupuncture is great for all athletes!

Sports injuries often take a long time to heal, especially where ligaments or tendons are concerned. All connective tissue can heal properly when given the chance and supported in the healing process.

Acupuncture can speed up the healing process by returning the natural energy flow to the affected area of the body so that you can heal. This lets you feel better, and get out there to have some more fun!

Seeing Red? Relieve Anger Issues with Acupuncture

Don't let anger issues overwhelm you - try acupuncture!

Don’t let anger issues overwhelm you – try acupuncture!

Boost that feeling of well-being! Acupuncture relieves stress and brings your emotions back into balance.

Have you been dealing with anger or other emotional issues?

A person’s anger when uncontrollable can be dangerous not only to himself, but also to the people around them. Anger will result in damaging of relationships; a person’s judging capability, and many more things.

There is no doubt that Chinese medicine has developed something of a reputation for dealing with emotional issues. Over the last decade the use of acupuncture for problems like anxiety and depression has been researched with encouraging results. Anger is an automatic emotional response to behaviors that a person cannot tolerate.

Chinese wisdom is that we house each of the emotions equally, and respond appropriately to all the changes of life, pleasant or otherwise. If our overall balance is out of alignment, then we exhibit inappropriate reactions which are diagnostically significant. To be angry a great deal of the time could well be traced back to specific patterns of energy, and there is a chance that correcting these patterns, in which stagnation and blockage invariably play a part, might reduce the occurrence of a problem.

This is where acupuncture plays its part. Acupuncture allows the freeing of the energy flow in a person’s body, and steadily reduces the anger levels. One can think that emotions are how thoughts and chemicals actually feel, a sensory experience part to the thoughts and chemicals we are made of.

Acupuncture gets a thumbs up for reducing stress!

Acupuncture gets a thumbs up for reducing stress!

Treatment is always on a case-by-case basis. Likewise, the symptoms of a person suffering from an emotional disorder are different in every case, depending on a combination of a person’s biological and personality makeup. The other good news is that there are no harmful side effects and no possibility for addiction with acupuncture.

Choosing your thoughts carefully, and watching your diet, will improve things dramatically as well. Impeccable thought is a work in progress, as are diet choices. Start where you are and move forward from there! Acupuncture is certainly a helping hand towards health.

Achieve Your Weight Goals with Acupuncture!

Beauty is health. Let acupuncture help you achieve your ideal weight and boost your health!

It was a long, long winter. That’s certainly not news to anyone. Many of us got through with perhaps a bit more chocolate and a whole lot less exercise than might be recommended.

But did you know this? Acupuncture is a natural and safe means of boosting your weight loss plan to achieve your goals this Spring!

There are other reasons why we gain weight. Besides the lack of exercise, and eating our way through the Winter Doldrums, some of the most common reasons are hormone imbalances, slowed metabolism, and poor nutrition.

Acupuncture Eases Diggestive Issues - Visit our office in Wilton, Bethel or Fairfield, CT

Acupuncture Works with Your Diet Plan for a Healthy You!

Acupuncture helps with all of these causes of weight gain, and is a great alternative treatment for losing weight. It works as an appetite suppressant, aids in digestion, helps boost metabolism and enables relaxation. It also strengthens the function of the liver, the organ that produces many chemicals critical for digestion, processing nutrients and breaking down of fats.

The other good news is that there are no harmful side effects and no possibility for addiction with acupuncture.

Acupuncture affects both physical wellness and mental aspects of weight loss.  An increased level of endorphins is helpful in curbing your cravings, and this can be particularly helpful for those who deal with emotional eating. Acupuncture will leave you feeling calm and relaxed and often less hungry. Regular acupuncture treatments have also been shown to help tone and shrink the stomach muscle, and this helps you feel full faster. In addition to successful weight loss, acupuncture also decreases problems with joint pain, insomnia and headaches.

Get a Head Start on Allergy Season with Acupuncture

Breathe Easy with Acupuncture!

It’s not just Spring, it’s Allergy Season! Acupuncture is a holistic way to keep your allergies at bay.

It was a long winter, for certain. And it’s not like you don’t appreciate the beauty of the flowers and the budding of the trees. You just know what it means. Weeks of sneezing, nose-blowing, headaches…and that’s just the average symptoms.

An allergy is an immune system disorder that occurs when your body has an inflammatory, hypertensive reaction to what is a normally benign substance. Like pollen. Common conditions such as hay fever, eczema, hives and asthma are actually allergic reactions; others include food allergies, reactions to bee stings, and certain medications.

There are two main factors that can make you susceptible to allergens — host and environmental factors.

Host factors are items that are genetic (race, age, gender, and heredity) while environmental factors are exposure to pollution, diseases, and exposure to high levels of allergens, particularly at a young age.

Most treatments aim to reduce the discomfort of the symptoms temporarily, and they often come with negative side effects.

Boost Your Immunity with Acupuncture!

Enjoy the Outdoors with Acupuncture

Acupuncture is always in season.

Acupuncture is one of the major holistic therapies used for thousands of years to address the underlying energetic relationships in the body that makes those allergic reactions happen. Acupuncture treatments aim to, and yes, give immediate relief from the symptoms, and further, it can address the variety of underlying causes.

Point sites for the underlying causes will be found on an individual basis after a thorough case history. Point sites for immediate relief include local points near the actual symptom places such as the sinus areas, and others not so obvious to understand such as near the hands or feet.  The point sites are always on the skin and the surface of the body.  A patient will happily experience immediate improvement of the symptoms.

Long term? The symptoms stop, and the reactiveness calms down.

You can get back to your regularly scheduled life. Enjoy the outdoors again and breathe deep!
