Attention Sufferers – ADD and ADHD Helped with Acupuncture

Acupuncture Helpful for ADD/ADHD

Acupuncture Helpful for ADD/ADHD

Acupuncture can help sufferers of ADD and ADHD feel calmer, happier, and perform better at work and in school.

ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are disorders that are usually associated with one another. These syndromes consist of symptoms including a lack of ability to maintain attention to a subject for a prolonged period of time (from moments to minutes), a sense of disconnectedness from the current flow of activities around them, an inability to follow directions, and a hard time sitting still, among other symptoms.

Although commonly linked, ADD and ADHD exhibit themselves behaviorally in very different ways. People with ADD tend to be somewhat passive, and more withdrawn than their ADHD counterparts. People with ADD are more easily overwhelmed, while people with ADHD tend to be brasher and have a harder time connecting with the people around them.

Both conditions can be extremely painful for the patient socially and psychologically. They too have symptoms that may begin in childhood and continue into adulthood — in fact, up to half of adults diagnosed with the disorder had it as children. Over 10% of boys and 5% of girls suffer from this disorder, according to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychology (AACAP).

But there is help. Acupuncture can help to promote healing, alleviate pain, calm the spasms and ticking, boost the immune system, and generally encourage good health in many ways, and it can also help to address some of the unpleasant side effects of the medications used to treat ADD and ADHD.

Acupuncture gets the thumbs up!

Acupuncture gets the thumbs up!

Acupuncture works with the energy force in the body and regulates the flow of that energy, and it can be an extremely effective tool in addressing behavioral disorders.

Acupuncture can help to calm the impulses that make it hard for a patient to stay still. It can also work to improve concentration and bolster the energy of the patient, which can address both the sluggishness commonly associated with ADD patients and the hyperactivity commonly seen in patients with ADHD. Enhancing the flow of energy in the body can also assist the ADD and ADHD patient to maintain a positive outlook, and can help to regulate sleep.

More parents are turning to alternative medicine. Acupuncture is a natural, safe, non-addictive way to treat ADD and ADHD.

Happy Halloween! Say “Boo” to Headaches (& Other Painful Bodily Occurrences)

Feel Fabulous Every Day of the Year with Acupuncture

Feel Fabulous Every Day of the Year with Acupuncture

Headaches, heartburn, back pain, neck pain — scary!
What do all of they have in common?
Acupuncture!

The other thing they have in common is that they can really ruin a party, vacation, or a work day. But you have an ally on your side.

Acupuncture is one of the most time-tested treatments known to mankind. It has been used for thousands of years to help sooth and heal these and many other complaints that make you go bump in the night, or grumble during the day.

First off, acupuncture is very effective at relieving headaches and migraines. Acupuncture always looks to the underlying causes as well, and thereby can help to prevent any future occurrences. Acupuncture offers powerful relief without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause.

This is also good news for those of us who suffer from acid reflux, indigestion and stomach aches. Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system, curing the underlying causes of acid reflux. Acupuncture helps ease symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving the acid reflux, indigestion, and stomach ache.

Acupuncture may also benefit acid reflux patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture works to relieve the body of these stressors by helping to calm the nerves thus inducing a state of relaxation. Yay less stress! Yay relaxation!

Acupuncture is also a friend to your back and your neck, when you’ve sprained or strained yourself. Back pain is one of the most frequently treated symptoms, and most people experience great results.

This is also true for neck pain. Acupuncture will help speed the healing process. In addition, acupuncture is good at reducing the tension in the neck tendons and muscles. It can help relieve the pain and tightness in the neck by increasing the circulation of blood and energy.

Don’t be spooked! Acupuncture has a relaxing effect on many people and some even fall asleep during the treatment. Pain relief and relaxation – what a treat!

Happy Halloween!

You’re Gorgeous Now! But Get Skin Deep Beauty with Acupuncture

Beautiful Skin with Acupuncture!

Beautiful Skin with Acupuncture!

Hard to improve upon perfection — but acupuncture is very effective for your skin complaints!

Acupuncture treatments are effective because they treat more than the symptoms.  In acupuncture, we consider physical, emotional, and environmental factors of the individual when treating skin problems.

Acne is among the most common of skin conditions. If you suffer from acne, you’re not alone. It affects almost all adolescents to some degree, and can extend into adulthood. The degree of severity can vary widely, and sometimes scarring can occur. It can also be the source of physical pain and local skin infections.

Acupuncture methods such as auricular and hormone balancing acupuncture are the most commonly used acupuncture methods for treating acne. When acupuncture is used for acne, it targets specific areas of the body that are known to trigger digestion and the immune system and to reduce inflammation. It also works on regulating your body’s internal structures, organs and functions, as well as balancing hormone levels.

When acupuncture regulates your body’s hormone output, it also regulates your skin’s oils and make your skin clearer. Hormone balancing acupuncture has more benefits for women who have hormone imbalances and menstrual problems like mood swings, PMS, cramping, etc. which will also be helped greatly with this procedure. Acupuncture is also effective in stimulating the body’s immune responses which can help deal with the bacteria that cause the acne.

Another common skin complaint is Rosacea.  Rosacea is a cyclic inflammatory skin condition. Symptoms are redness on the face, red bumps (pustules) on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead, thickening of the skin, visible blood vessels (telangiectasia), burning sensation in the eyes, and flushing/blushing.  Rosacea will flare up for a few weeks or months, then appear to get better before flaring up again.

The actual cause of rosacea is unclear. It also tends to be a progressive problem, meaning that it gets worse over time.  When rosacea is severe, patients often also develop redness, dryness, grittiness, and inflammation of the eyes that can eventually lead to partial vision loss.

Acupuncture - gentle treatment for the delicate flower that you are!

Acupuncture – Gentle Treatment for Delicate Flowers!

Acupuncture treats rosacea by cooling red, inflamed skin, clearing pustules and helping to reduce the appearance of blood vessels. Part of the treatment for rosacea is to determine and eliminate the source of the heat and causes of flare-ups. This involves an assessment and history of the condition, lifestyle factors, diet, and triggers, such as alcohol and stress.

Acupuncture works best alongside dietary therapy and lifestyle modifications to help treat rosacea, acne and many other conditions. As each person is unique, and each set of symptoms is unique — therefore, each treatment is unique.  Acupuncture is a wonderful way to treat your beautiful skin holistically.

You Wanted Spring…But the Allergies? Acupuncture Gives Allergy Relief!

Enjoy Spring! Allergy Relief with Acupuncture!

Enjoy Spring! Allergy Relief with Acupuncture!

Spring’s sprung, your allergies have been triggered and your nose and eyes are running in fear. What do you do?

It was a long winter, for certain. And it’s not like you don’t appreciate the beauty of the flowers and the budding of the trees. But…you know what it means. Weeks of sneezing, nose-blowing, headaches…and that’s just the average symptoms.

It’s not just Spring…it’s ALLERGY SEASON.

An allergy is an immune system disorder that occurs when your body has an inflammatory, hypertensive reaction to what is a normally benign substance. Like pollen. Common conditions such as hay fever, eczema, hives and asthma are actually allergic reactions; others include food allergies, reactions to bee stings, and certain medications. There are several types of tests you can take to gauge exactly what allergens your body has a reaction to.

There are two main factors that can make you susceptible to allergens — host and environmental factors.

Host factors are items that are genetic (race, age, gender, and heredity) while environmental factors are exposure to pollution, diseases, and exposure to high levels of allergens, particularly at a young age. The dangers posed by allergies range from the merely annoying and/or inconvenient (pollen that causes a runny nose) to the truly life threatening (exposure to certain foods, such as shellfish).

Most treatments aim to reduce the discomfort of the symptoms temporarily, and they often come with negative side effects.

Well, Spring allergies…Acupuncture is always in season.

Acupuncture is one of the major holistic therapies used for thousands of years to address the underlying energetic relationships in the body that makes those allergic reactions happen. Acupuncture treatments aim to, and yes, give immediate relief from the symptoms, and further, it can address the variety of underlying causes.

Point sites for the underlying causes will be found on an individual basis after a thorough case history. Point sites for immediate relief include local points near the actual symptom places such as the sinus areas, and others not so obvious to understand such as near the hands or feet.  The point sites are always on the skin and the surface of the body.  A patient will happily experience immediate improvement of the symptoms, and be encouraged therefore to continue to pursue the underlying causes in future treatments.

Long term? The symptoms stop, and the reactiveness calms down.

You can get back to your regularly scheduled life. Enjoy the outdoors again!

Montezuma’s Revenge? – Acupuncture Sends the Storm Clouds of Intestinal Distress Away!

Acupuncture Sends the Storm Clouds of Intestinal Distress Away!

Acupuncture Sends the Storm Clouds of Intestinal Distress Away!

You  just HAD to have that Taco Supremo from the Gas Station in Peoria and now your intestines are singing of El Diablo?

Traveler’s diarrhea happens when you consume food or water contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Diarrhea is a condition where you pass loose or liquid bowel movements at least three times in one day. Although in most cases it isn’t a serious health issue, it does lead to a loss of fluids, which can have dire consequences, such as dehydration.

Many different strains of viruses and bacteria are responsible for diarrhea along with some types of parasites. Diarrhea is also present in situations in tandem with some more serious medical issues, such as Malabsorption (the inability to absorb food in the colon) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  A number of different treatment options are recommended, and are administered depending on the case and circumstances.

You can take the following precautions to prevent traveler’s diarrhea when you go abroad:

Do not drink any tap water, not even when brushing your teeth.
Do not drink unpasteurized milk or dairy products.
Do not use ice made from tap water.
Avoid all raw fruits and vegetables (including lettuce and fruit salad) unless they can be peeled and you peel them yourself.
Do not eat raw or rare meat and fish.
Do not eat meat or shellfish that is not hot when served to you.
Do not eat food from street vendors.
You can safely drink bottled water (if you are the one to break the seal), carbonated soft drinks, and hot drinks like coffee or tea.

Let’s say you’ve done all these things, and perhaps Montezuma’s Revenge has seized upon you regardless. Here’s where acupuncture can help.

Acupuncture is also part of the major holistic systems of healing, and can give great improvement to the digestive system. We help strengthen the immune system as well.  A complete history and exam will proceed a treatment, as a single symptom should not be treated out of its larger context.  Acupuncture looks to all the energy systems before choosing point sites.  Acupuncture has very powerful energy to restore your digestion and intestinal functions to normal. After all, the best revenge is a life well lived!
