Winter’s Coming! Strengthen Your Immunity!

Boost Your Immunity with Acupuncture!

Boost Your Immunity with Acupuncture!

Want to increase your immunity? Try acupuncture!

Feeling sick of the cold weather already? Many Americans believe that catching two or three colds a year is normal. They endure the symptoms, often relieving them with over-the-counter medications that can cause serious health injury. They also take cold and flu shots, which can actually cause illness themselves.

But did you know that you can live your life entirely cold-free without taking anything harmful into your system? Your immune system can heal itself the second an intruder sneaks in, preventing a cold from ever happening.

How does it work? Acupuncture acts on the body’s own subtle energy system to clear obstructions and maximize the flow of energy and blood through the healing mechanisms of the body, including the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. This enhances the body’s own innate healing capacity and leads to an overall increase in energy and vitality.

But that’s not all. Treatments often bring about a sense of wonderful relaxation. It has been proven that such deep relaxation helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, which can help reduce stress and anxiety, and expand a sense of well-being.

Acupuncture works to strengthen your immunity.  Acupuncture heals imbalances in your immune system and also restores energy channels that have become disrupted. When these channels are open, the immune system functions at an optimal level and your body stays healthy. Researchers have found that acupuncture enhances the production of natural killer cells, the body’s defense mechanisms against viruses and bacteria. Acupuncture also regulates the activity of white blood cells, which also fight against infection and allergic reactions.

Get relief from pain, depression symptoms and more with acupuncture!

Acupuncture can address the weaknesses in the body in the same way a vaccine addresses weaknesses; by boosting energy and giving the body what it needs to strengthen itself. Acupuncture also helps the brain increase the body’s level of T-cells; cells which destroy bacteria and harmful viruses in the body.

During cold and flu season, particularly for people susceptible to colds, it’s a good idea to boost your immune system every few weeks with acupuncture. The great benefits are that besides avoiding illness, you will see numerous positive side effects, such as a deeper sleep, clearer skin and a more relaxed and positive attitude. Take that, nasty germs!

Acupuncture also aids with pain relief, easing depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and many other ailments. With acupuncture you’re ready for winter!

Reduce Bloating and Digestive Issues with Acupuncture

Acupuncture brings relief from gas and other digestive issues.

Acupuncture brings relief from gas and other digestive issues.

Soothe bloating and other stomach discomforts with acupuncture!

We all have a tendency to overindulge when celebrating with family or friends, or with tempting leftover Halloween candy.

If you feel bloated, you may be receiving a signal that the body is not digesting food properly. Sometimes poor digestion results from intolerance to a specific food, such as gluten or lactose. Other causes include irritable bowel syndrome, not drinking enough water, eating high-fat foods and stress.

If indigestion, gas or bloating bother you more than just an occasional episode from overeating, acupuncture treatments can help!

Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system. It eases symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving indigestion, stomach ache and acid reflux, bloating and constipation.

Acupuncture works immediately to harmonize, balance, and strengthen your digestive system. Acupuncture may also benefit patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture helps to calm the nerves, resulting in a relaxed body, and a happy, healthy digestive system. It’s also a great immunity boost!

Don’t suffer from digestive discomfort. Try acupuncture!

Prevention can also be helpful. Here’s a few tips to avoid bloating.

Go for a short walk after meals -- it's good for your digestion!

A short walk after meals is good for your digestion!

  • Eat slowly! Take time to enjoy your food — you avoid swallowing air, which can lead to gas retention.
  • Avoid salt – an extra salty meal may lead to water retention, which causes bloating.
  • Avoid fatty foods – fats take longer for the body to process, hindering digestion.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks – as you consume these drinks, carbon dioxide gas builds up in your body. This can quickly lead to bloating, especially if you drink them quickly. Plain water is best.
  • Go for a walk – a short walk can alleviate bloating after a meal.

Boost Your Energy with Acupuncture!

Get Energized This Autumn with Acupuncture!

Get Energized This Autumn with Acupuncture!

Feeling your spirits drag with the change of the clock?
Acupuncture boosts your energy!

If you feel tired and drained, you are not alone. “Lack of energy” is one of the top five complaints that acupuncturists hear.

There are a number of conditions that may be responsible for your fatigue. These include anemia, thyroid issues, low blood sugar, and chronic fatigue syndrome. However, if these conditions have been ruled out, you may have a tough time getting to the bottom of why you’re so tired.

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which works on the principle that all the organs in the body have an energy (Qi). Energy travels out of the organs and connects to your skin through channels called meridians. The meridians are connected all over your body.

There are many reasons why your Qi supplies get depleted. Poor diet, digestive issues, illness, working too hard, stress and strong emotions, and even chronic pain can all deplete your energy. If the energies become out of balance through stress, overwork or excess partying, you may experience low energy levels, digestive disorders or not being able to sleep properly.

Acupuncture works to clear obstructions and maximize the flow of energy and blood through the healing mechanisms of the body, including the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. This enhances the body’s own innate healing capacity and leads to an overall increase in energy and vitality.

Summer is for Relaxing! Acupuncture Eases Anxiety and Stress

Don't Let Stress Get You Down! Acupuncture Reduces Anxiety

Don’t Let Stress Get You Down! Acupuncture Reduces Anxiety

Are you interested in a holistic approach to managing stress and anxiety? Acupuncture works!

Anxiety is a completely normal human emotion. Many people feel nervous or anxious when faced with work problems, before taking an exam, or making a challenging life decision. It’s a perfectly normal reaction to stress.

So what exactly is stressing us out? Whenever we experience a thought or event that we perceive as stressful, our bodies produce hormones and neurotransmitters that help us respond to the stressful situation by engaging in a conflict or fleeing.

This “fight or flight” response is important for motivating us to take action and avoid danger when necessary.  It is meant to be a short-term reaction to a situation that may be life-threatening. With continued or repeated stress without adequate time and resources for our bodies to recover, the “fight or flight” response can become chronic, and can interfere with someone’s ability to lead a normal life.

Acupuncture Helps You Relax!

Acupuncture Helps You Relax

Distress can disturb the body’s internal balance or equilibrium, leading to physical symptoms. Emotional problems can also result from distress. In the United States, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million adults — women twice more than men.

Acupuncture is a powerful treatment for relieving anxiety.

Acupuncture treats your mental, emotional and physical symptoms.  It helps relieve the headaches, upset stomach, chest pain, sexual dysfunction, muscle aches, insomnia, and irritability that anxiety and stress can cause, as well as reducing blood pressure.

The resulting effect from acupuncture is a feeling of relaxation, calm and an overall sense of well-being. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

Avoid Dehydration — Acupuncture Refreshes!

Avoid dehydration - drink more water and get acupuncture!

Avoid dehydration – drink more water and get acupuncture!

Are you dehydrated? Drink your water, and get acupuncture!

Summer’s here, and it’s easy to get dehydrated. Water is so important to our body. Water fills empty spaces and transports blood cells. It dissolves all the body solids and increases oxygen to the cells. It is the glue that keeps the solid parts of cells together, is the main source of energy production and also regulates energy by osmotic balancing. Everything in your body needs water to live.

Unfortunately, thirst isn’t always a reliable source of the body’s need for water, especially for children and older adults. Water is lost from the body from sweating, urinating, breathing, and bowel movements. How do you know if you’re dehydrated? Consider your personal color instead  — a better gauge is the color of your urine. Clear or light-colored urine means you’re well hydrated, whereas a dark yellow or amber color usually signals dehydration.

Time to drink more water! Here’s what can happen if you don’t…

Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness — children are likely to be less active than usual
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears when crying
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

Severe dehydration, a medical emergency, can cause:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Extreme fussiness or sleepiness in infants and children; irritability and confusion in adults
  • Very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes
  • Little or no urination — any urine that is produced will be darker than normal
  • Sunken eyes
  • Shriveled and dry skin that lacks elasticity and doesn’t “bounce back” when pinched into a fold
  • In infants, sunken fontanels — the soft spots on the top of a baby’s head
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • No tears when crying
  • Fever
  • In the most serious cases, delirium or unconsciousness

So obviously, we need to pay attention to our hydration levels! When dehydration has occurred, acupuncture can help restore balance.

You can eat your water! About 20% of our daily H2O intake comes from solid foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

You can eat your water! Fresh produce like tomatoes, watermelons and oranges are high in water.

When an acupuncture needle is inserted, it results in increased heat, which results in increased blood flow, and it results in an increase in water to the damaged cells that cause pain. Acupuncture and water work as a team to help heal your body. By increasing the content of water to the damaged cells cellular healing occurs.

The following organs as important team players in the role of creating and moving blood: Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lung, and Liver. Blood needs water to move. If blood does not function properly, then qi (or Life Force) cannot move well either.

Acupuncture isn’t just for dehydration — allergies, arthritis, and high blood pressure are also alleviated with acupuncture.

From Heartburn to Constipation – Acupuncture Eases Digestive Complaints

A Happy, Healthy Belly with Acupuncture!

A Happy, Healthy Belly with Acupuncture!

Take control of your digestive health this summer with acupuncture!

If you are one of the 60-70 million people affected by some form of digestive disorder, there is safe, effective treatment!

Acupuncture can be a wonderful resource for feeling better now and maintaining those improvements over the long term.

Digestive function is a complex process, involving multiple organ systems, enzymes and hormones. Our digestive system is also home to many of the body’s immune cells. If our digestive system is not functioning properly, it needs to use enzymes normally associated with our immune system, thus weakening our immunity, and without proper elimination of waste products, the build up of toxic by-products in our body increases, leading to a greater chance of illness.

Poor digestive function can be affiliated with fatigue, accelerated aging, allergies, weak immune system and cancers, to a name a few.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help people gain digestive health, and heal while improving immunity!

Acupuncture is very helpful for many common digestive disorders including:

  • Acid Reflux
  • Constipation
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating/excess gas
  • Heartburn
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Celiac Disease

Have a healthy summer with acupuncture!

In traditional Chinese medicine, disease is seen as an imbalance of qi, or vital energy, in the body. The placement of needles at different points in the body helps unblock and stimulate this flow of energy. Acupuncture works to help your body heal and resolve the problem. Treatment is based on each individual’s needs, which could include either an excess or deficiency of qi.

Acupuncture heals the channels of the entire digestive system. It eases symptoms and discomfort immediately, relieving indigestion, stomach ache and acid reflux, bloating and constipation. Acupuncture may also benefit patients who find their symptoms are brought on or worsened by stress, anxiety and emotional issues. Acupuncture works to relieve the body of these stressors by helping to calm the nerves thus inducing a state of relaxation. A relaxed body, and a happy, healthy digestive system!

Ladies! Acupuncture Eases PMS, Bloating and other Gifts from Mother Nature

Feel Like Yourself Again with Acupuncture!

Are you suffering from PMS or menstrual cramps? Acupuncture is safe and effective at easing pain and stress!

Bloating. Mood swings. Headache. Fatigue, anxiety and depression. It must be that time of the month! It doesn’t have to be this way.

Premenstrual syndrome occurs during the luteal phase of a woman’s menstrual cycle. Scientists are unclear of the exact cause of PMS, although they have found correlations. Some studies show that glutamate levels in the brain spike prior to menstruation, which can cause mood swings and anxiety. Other scientists suspect that low levels of serotonin or beta-endorphin, which are both neurotransmitters that promote positive moods, may underlie the symptoms of PMS.

Hormone levels naturally fluctuate during the menstrual cycle. However, stress, discomfort and anxiety that arise from these changing levels are not! In extreme cases, PMS can interfere with everyday life.

Regardless of the exact cause, premenstrual syndrome is easy to cure.

Acupuncture is extremely effective at treating menstrual disorders including: painful periods, irregular periods, amenorrhea and PMS. It’s also excellent at relieving symptoms of stress of all kinds. With its balancing effects, acupuncture restores harmony to the hormonal and energy systems of the body, healing the causes of PMS.

The end result? You feel better, your mood improves, your headache goes away and your energy returns. If you suffer any discomfort during menses, such as cramps or nausea, acupuncture will ease these symptoms for you as well.

Whether it’s easing PMS or alleviating painful cramps, acupuncture is certainly an excellent ally during the challenging part of a woman’s month!

Other Ways to Reduce the Symptoms of PMS

  • Changing your diet to a healthier one can make a difference. Up your intake of fruits, veggies, and whole grains and cut back on sugar, artificial sweeteners, fat, and salt.Red sweater and mug lady
  • Consider limiting alcoholic drinks, as well as food and beverages containing caffeine throughout your cycle. Alcohol can make feelings of depression worse. Reducing caffeine may also minimize breast tenderness and irritability.
  • Drink plenty of water, or herbal teas. Many find chamomile soothing.
  • Exercise! You may not want to, but get in your workout anyway. The endorphin rush will help relieve cramps and raise your levels of serotonin.
  • Try to relax! Easier said than done, but many find that yoga, deep breathing, or meditation really helps. Stretching techniques such as yoga or tai chi can also help you relax.

Acupuncture For Pregnancy — How Is It Helpful?

Acupuncture for Fertility and Pregnancy

Acupuncture for Fertility and Pregnancy

Are you looking for a safe, effective way to boost your fertility, or ease the discomfiture of pregnancy?

Acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive and easy way to potentially increase your chances of getting pregnant, and there are many who are turning to acupuncture for fertility solutions when they are having difficulty conceiving.

Acupuncture greatly helps in curing fertility problems by encouraging follicle production, improving blood circulation and lining thickness in the uterus, improving egg quality, treating menstrual cycle disorders and improving overall health, which leads to the ability to more easily conceive and remain pregnant.

One of the ways acupuncture treatments increases fertility is by reducing stress, which is often a key factor in the fertility of both men and women. Stress can also alter sperm counts, motility, and cause impotence. Acupuncture infertility treatments counter the effects of stress and cortizol by releasing endorphins in the brain.

Acupuncture also works at stimulating the hypothalamus to effectively balance the endocrine system and its hormones and to get to the root cause of both male and female infertility. Acupuncture infertility treatments also have the added bonus of producing few or no side effects.

Once you’re pregnant, acupuncture is still very much an ally. Women experience discomfort in all stages of their pregnancy, whether it’s pelvic pain, hip pain, lower back pain or ligament pain. Acupuncture is a safe, natural and effective way to improve circulation and quell these common ailments, in addition to headache or migraine relief.

Happy Baby, Happy Mom!

Happy Baby, Happy Mom!

Speaking of discomfort, pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting are common among women, particularly in the first and second trimesters. During this time, rising levels of hormones, fatigue and stress wreak havoc on the digestive system. Acupuncture restores balance to this sensitive area and offers often immediate relief.

Acupuncture is relaxing, painless and gentle, and drug-free.  Less stress, a healthy body, balance – and the endorphins are certainly a bonus! Acupuncture helps you with your pregnancy from start to finish — a happy, healthy you…and baby!

Acupuncture Loves Your Neck! Holistic Relief for Neck Pain

Woman's Neck with OrchidAttention commuters, snow shovelers and all those suffering with neck pain — Acupuncture can help relieve stiff necks!

Sometimes shoveling Nature’s bounty, working endless hours hunched over a computer or all those hours spent commuting can be a literal pain in the neck. The neck is more subject to injury than any other portion of the spine, because of its position and range of motion, and because it plays such a vital role in the support of the head.

There are so many tendons and connecting tissue structures that enable the movement of the neck and arms, and we can also store our stress there. It is easy for nerves to get irritated in the mix, and when we add extra strain of commuting long hours or lifting endless piles of snow, this can really cause problems.

Neck pain can be mild enough so that it is a mere annoyance, or severe enough that it can interfere with quality of life. Sometimes a stiff neck occurs in conjunction with a headache.

Acupuncture can relieve both!

Studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in relieving certain types of neck pain, particularly those caused by whiplash.  In many cases, acupuncture has worked for patients whose conditions could not be solved using conventional approaches.

Let it snow! Acupuncture relieves neck pain!

Let it snow! Acupuncture relieves neck pain!

Acupuncture is very helpful and quickly so. Often relief is felt at the first treatment, and usually only a few are necessary, unless longstanding injuries are the cause, in which case more treatments will be needed. We treat local point sites, and include points at the neck area, as relieving the extra tension there gives immediate improvement.

We will look into your history of health, and include your other symptoms in our considerations. Acupuncture gives quick and steady improvement, without use of drugs, and is gentle and relaxing.

Wouldn’t it be nice to feel pain-free?

The Nose Knows – Acupuncture Relieves Sinus Pain

Acupuncture Relieves Sinus Issues -- Naturally!

Acupuncture Relieves Sinus Issues — Naturally!

Whether it’s intense pain, or an irritatingly runny nose — acupuncture eases sinus issues!

What are sinuses anyways? Sinuses are air pockets located in the cheekbones, between the eyes and the forehead. Small channels connect the sinuses to the nasal passages, allowing mucus to drain into the nose from the sinuses and air to flow into the sinuses from the nose.

Sinusitis is a condition when the paranasal sinuses become inflamed. This can cause headaches, tightness of the facial muscles, and increased production/discharge of mucus. Other symptoms include dizziness and the feeling of a “heavy head,” both of which are the results of congested (or blocked) sinus and other nasal passages. Sometimes nosebleeds are suffered.

Sinusitis is either classified as acute (less than four weeks) or chronic (eight weeks or longer). Either way, it can be annoying, embarrassing and painful to deal with.

A viral infection is often to blame, and when this occurs, the virus usually resolves itself without requiring any medication, and treatment consists of relieving the symptoms and not the virus itself. However in the case of allergies, the course of treatment depends on multiple factors, including the type of allergy, the patient’s overall health and also eliminating or avoiding certain environmental factors (such as mold, dust, extra dander, and extra pollen).

Food allergies play a subtle role in increasing the incidence of sinus symptoms. Symptoms are often aggravated by dairy products, caffeine, spicy foods, and alcohol. Limiting or eliminating these are advised.

A Map to Your Sinuses

A Map to Your Sinuses

Acupuncture is helpful in giving immediate relief of the symptoms, as well as treating underlying factors. We take a complete history to understand all the body systems. Point sites will be local for the immediate relief, and also other places determined by your history, as well as tongue and pulse diagnosis. The headache you may have will be relieved immediately! There will also be an immediate improvement on the stuffiness, and usually only a few treatments are needed to be of great help.

We will look at deeper underlying issues as well. In the case of viral infections, acupuncture helps to relieve stress and restore balance to your system so that your body can heal itself and return to full health quickly.
