Digestive Trouble is a general term that covers a wide range of issues, all connected to the whole digestive tract, from throat, stomach, intestines, down to rectum. These include colitis, diarrhea, heartburn, ulcers, constipation, and gastritis, among others. Some of these are chronic conditions, while others are merely passing issues caused by food poisoning, a bacterial or viral infection or a parasite in the colon.
Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to acute pain, or can manifest themselves in excessive vomiting or gas. Because of the wide variety of conditions that are covered under the digestive trouble umbrella, symptoms vary from person to person, and can indicate either a minor medical issue or a life-threatening problem.
Diet is a primary consideration, as are emotional issues. Stress, worry, sadness, fear, anger, and all derivatives of these basic emotions will contribute immediately to the digestive system and it’s ability to “stomach” your experiences and your perceptions. Relaxation before, during, and after meals, helps to enable a healthy processing of food. Troubles during mealtime may switch you to a “fight or flight” mode, which shortcuts away from digestion. Meditation is a good practice to help you maintain a healthy frame of mind for longer periods of time.
Acupuncture addresses the acute and immediate symptoms that are occurring in your digestive system. The point sites are local to your stomach and abdominal area, on the surface (skin) area, and not deep- just skin deep. The point sites that service the digestive system do also “surface” to the skin. I know it sounds strange as we do not see even a freckle there to suggest that this is true! But it is true none the less. Measuring skin resistance will show the presence of the point sites.
Further it is also good to treat underlying causes to digestive stress, and all stresses for that matter. Acupuncture evaluates more of your history and other symptoms as well to get a greater understanding of your body’s condition, and will then choose other point sites located on your legs, arms, back, etc. to facilitate a deeper clearing and correction of the chronic symptoms you frequently experience. Food allergies, and sensitivities will improve.
Acupuncture will give immediate improvements, and a longer series of treatments will help to clear up really stubborn conditions with deeper and older causes.
